fantastic shotgun for predators

LOL... maybe

Truth is I run a plug in my SBE2 year round. That way I never forget when it's goose time and after 3 shots pred hunting I'm probably wasting ammo..haha

Now that I'm pretty much done with goose hunting (nobody to hunt with) I may pull it.

You know I never thought of the added weight at the muzzle keeping the barrel down. I too have to plug my shotguns to 2 rounds in the tube. Might have to find a heavy plug and give it a try see if it helps.

Remington use to supply a steel three shot plug instead of the wooden or plastic one for waterfowl hunters. I've seen them in several 870 Wingmasters. Always an 870 Magnum with 30" full choke. The heavy weight over the leading hand smoothed the swing and overall helped reduce recoil. Now remember, a waterfowl hunter isn't usually packing their shotgun far. Most of their time is sitting and they aren't necessarily holding the gun until they spot some ducks/geese coming in. There are exceptions like working flooded timber, but generally speaking sitting in a blind of some sort is the typical scenario for a ducker/gooser. On a good day they shoot quite a bit and extra weight soaks up recoil and helps to keep the magnum shell beating from becoming a shooters flinch.

In the case of a predator hunter if you hunt close to the truck all that weight probably isn't a big deal. In my case I walk miles over rough country and the gun is in my hand or slung off my shoulder all day. I wouldn't carry such a heavy gun. I'd never use that much capacity anyway. Coyotes here in the timbered hills aren't in sight long enough to run through nine shots. Unless you're Jerry Miculek, and I'm certainly not! One of the few hunting laws I think is old fashioned and silly here in Missouri is that our shotguns must be plugged to a three shot limit for all hunting except deer. That shouldn't apply for predator hunting, but it does. As a curiosity my old HK Benelli's can ghost a fourth round on the follower when plugged.

I'll say that I love having the capacity in my versa-max, I load seven 3" shells in the tube and one in the gun. The newer gas guns are fast enough and have light enough recoil that you can get 3 shots off just like you would in an AR, shoots as fast as you can pull the trigger. The most shells i've shot on one stand was 5 and it was like the blink of an eye.

That 3 shell law for predators sucks, i'm suprised we dont have that law here in mass becuase we have every other law. However, in most cases you should be fine with three shells.

The FN is a great shotgun for 3gun it was one of the guns on my list but I cheaped out and bought a 930JM

I have used these before, I had a extra 835 setup for my GF and to use as a loner when a buddy that didn't have a 12gauge would want to go goose hunting and I used one for a plug in it they work great.

I am pretty sure that is not correct. In Colorado you can pull the plug and stuff the tube full when predator hunting.

Some states, coyotes are considered a pest and non game animal. The insurance companies have a toe hold on the legislators, make no mistake about it. When the Senators that have ranches/farms start having their calves killed, you start to see some changes. Until then, the deer herds just keep diminishing.
