I'm going to try some new idea to try in my model 12 .223 and I just got my dad a 223 vlp. Will shoot in local 100 yard matches for fun and some longer range steel shooting once in a blue moon. Both are 1/9 twist

53g Sierra HP

52 sierra bthp

52g berger

I hope you have an ogive gauge to measure the OAL to just barely touch the lands

I do have an ogive gauge. So far with my one model 12 50g vmax seated to book length have worked out nice. Under 1/2in at 100. Haven't done much development yet. I'm not sure if I got lucky with the load 24.5g h335 or if the rifle is a shooter

52 gr. Fowler, from Jeff's old tool steel dies, not the new carbide ones. But Jeff has been dead a long time now and his tool steel dies died a long time before he did... Think those bullets still hold a few world records though. And I've still got a couple thousand of them.

In 14Twists, the 50g Sierra Blitz king is another "match" grade bullet, sierra takes some serious time and effort to control jacket concentricity in their "Blitz King" grade bullets, and they have produced some extremely small groups in my rifles.

The jacket quality control is one reason you pay more money for the Blitz king bullets, but for serious accuracy shooters, they are worth every penny.

IN the test that another guy and I performed, the blitz king 50g was more explosive than the other poly tip bullets, great for p. dogs, ground squirrels, jack rabbits, not so much for coyotes.

Cory, my model 12 likes handloads using sierra match king 69gr bthp`s out to 200 yards. For 100 yards I`d try some factory black hills 52 gr match hollow points. Good luck, Gary

If you are really serious about accuracy, don't waste your time on anything mass produced. Get some custom bullets, on J4's, cranked one at a time by an educated elbow.
