im looking at the winchester super x and federal powershok ammo in .243, both are 80gr soft points. prices are both around the $17 range. and ive seen the federals for $2 lower at one place. just curious which of these two brand most people prefer for cheaper factory ammo? and why? is one generally better than the other?

Shoot them both and see what your gun likes.

I personally would lean towards the Federal, but the advice above is great advice, Find out what your weapon prefers and don't look back.

Both are great. I use Federal in my 243 and Winchester in my 280. See which one the rifle patterns best with and you will have your answer. I have other rifles that like some of the Remington stuff.

If not reloading, I'd go with whichever is more accurate in your gun. If reloading, I like re-using Winchester brass much better than Federal. Federal brass is soft.

I use federal power shocks as well. My Hows 1500 in .308 loves the 150 grain bullets. Plus they have put a hurting on some deer and elk that I have shot with them.
