Female Coyote(pics)

Went out quick this morning and made 3 stands and got this female on the third one. She came in on this Maple Burl Call I turned. I setup by a drainage pond and had to shew the cows out of the way to get into the stand. I walked in about 100 yards and setup the decoy Weasel made for me. I started in with a light calling sequence. I waited about 1 minute and increased the volume a little. about 5 minutes into this same sequence I saw her approaching. My gun was sitting next to me in that awkward position I always seem to get it in when I have made a few stand and nothing has come in. She finally dipped down in a little draw and was able to get my gun up. I figured where she would pop out and put my scope in that spot. She came out in the opening and stopped to look at the decoy and I let the hammer fall. She dropped instantly. THANKS Weasel it worked Perfect!

Congratulations! Your calls look and sound awesome. It's nice to hear that the decoy helped too. Keep after them. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Nice going Elkeholic,

The call looks like a sweet piece of wood. What are you shooting,,, looks like a Super Predator Master.

Ya it's an SPM I really like it, I like it Alot. Probablly overkill for a gun but, they say you can't take it with you, so I bought it.You know, I think I'm going to try and take it with me! Maybe there will be coyotes in the after life? Hope so, or send me to Hell if they have em!

Elkeholic-- Congratulations on having a successful hunt! Thanks for the photos and the story!

Did she stop facing you so you did a shot to the throat? That sure is a fine looking rifle and that call look fabulous too.

Does the decoy have any action to it or are the feathers the only thing that moves??? Sometimes those coyotes act like they are hypnotized when they get a fix on that decoy.

Yes she was facing me, and I was actually going for a frontal chest shot, but ooops! I was amazed at how she was fixed on that decoy, I should have played with her a bit more, but fur is fur. BTW if you look at her feet she had been digging allot recently, her claws were worn right down and her feet and were pretty rough looking.

Another note on the decoy, My first stand had produced some crows, they stayed longer than they usually do and even dived at the fox a few times, but the kicker was a Hawk that literally dive bombed it. That was quite a site. He flew off at the last minute but it made a believer out of me. Also the only movment is the feather.

As far as the gun they are a pleasure to carry, weatherby really put a great deal of thought into these guns.

Thanks for the comment on the calls, I will soon be selling them here, just need to get my money sent in! I am selling them on my web site, and plan to here soon. I really enjoy making them!

I would like to know where the decoys come from or did you guys make your own. Can a paper pattern be had to make one for myself?
Thanxs in advance
