There are some feral hogs near my buddies property. we killed a few the other evening when leaving a coyote stand. Almost made up for not seeing any coyotes. That was my first time taking a feral hog, there are so many here in Texas that there is no bag limit or season.

So now im wondering, whats the best way to hunt these critters, other than just dumb luck.

Im thinking i should find some of their routes they take across the area, stake out a good stand and bait with corn (its legal here).

some sort of feeder works great...corn, sweet feed, hog wild, or anything like that. ORRRRRRR you could dig a hole about 3 ft. wide 2-3 ft. deep, and fill it with corn soured in beer...I know "Beer Abuse"...but it works...

Or if you can pattern them somehow...stalking them can make for a great time...You can also trap them and sell them for pretty good money.

i have trapped them by taking 3 wire cattle panels and fence post and make a circle leaving an overlaped opening and bungy cord it shut put corn in the middle andwhen they push though the opened spot the bungy closes it back so they can not get back out works real good

jess gililland , that sounds like a good idea !
the main objective here is to cull out some of their numbers and have some good pork ribs to boot

Take a 30 gallon plastic barrel that has a good ring type band to hold the lid on. Drill approximately 20 holes in different location all around the barrel. Holes should be about the size of dime. Attach a chain on a swivel at the opposite end of lid. Put 50 lbs. of corn in the barrel and secure the lid. Drive a stake in the ground and wrap chain loosly around the stake so that chain will rotate around the stake.

When hogs find the barrel, they will learn real quick that they can push the barrel around, causing corn to come out of holes in barrel. Hogs will roll the barrel around and around the stake getting the corn out.

If you just pour corn on the ground they will eat it all in one night. Using the barrel, sometimes it takes them about a week to empty the drum because they have to work the barrel to get the corn out.

I shot this hog yesterday off one of my barrels. She was so busy working the barrel that she never noticed me sitting in my pickup about 50 yards from the barrel.

Directions for a 10 dollar hog hunt.....

1. Go to kroger and get 3 or 4 packs of jello, mixed fruit or grape really doesnt matter
2. 5 gallon bucket full of corn.
3. Empty jello into corn in the bucket.
4. Pour in 3 or 4 beers to go with the jello and put the lid on the bucket.
5. With a set of posthole diggers dig a hole about 3 feet deep and add content of bucket into hole.
6. Kill piggy

Or you could buy some hog wild, or change the oil in your truck, put the oil in a bucket and add a burlap sack. Wrap the burlap sack around a tree (that you dont want) kill piggy. I got more if you need em'
