hey
so we are going to texas this weekend to hunt hogs and I just finished my call box (MP3, nady 151, speco spc5) and was wondering if any uses pig sounds such as the ones found on westernrivers.com to call in pigs or if people use something else???????
what should I try?
( are we stupid for going to texas in march with all the rain??? and trying to find hogs? we are hunting on a ranch with lighted feeders and pigs come and go as they please)

Hey Brandino,

Heck no, your not nuts for coming to Texas anytime!!!

I haven't tried to call in any hogs as yet, but I see no reason why the sounds might not attract them. If, you are hunting in stands overlooking a feeder with corn in it, you probably won't need the caller. However, it never hurts to have one more trick in the arsenal to throw at them.

Where in Texas is the location? If it is West Texas, or the Hill Country around the Edwards Plateau, you shouldn't have any trouble. Besides most stands out that way are built for foul weather hunting anyway. Sounds like it will be a great hunt.

BTW, do you know if they are talking about Feral Hogs, Russian Boar, or what we call Javelina's (Piccary)? Loads of difference between the three.

Turkey season is either in now, or about to be in. You might want to check to see if you can hunt turkey too? If so, be sure to bring some turkey calls for your e-caller. Now, that is worth the trip for sure.

Good luck on your trip. Going turkey hunting myself soon.

Bill
