Firearms Transfer Fee

I have never ordered a firearm from a third party before and am wondering what to expect a gun shop to charge me for shipping a firearm from one FFL to another. I wish I could say that I have a great history with a gun shop in my area, but there are no gun shops in my area that I purchase from regularly.

You will likely be better off with a FFL holder who does not have to pay for a store front. When you buy on the web he wants to make his profit on the gun you did not buy through him in the transfer fee.

A guy who has his FFL for his convenience sees it as a few bucks extra in his pocket that he did not have before.

My store front FFL charges $25. My friend charges $10 or a case of Leinenkugels. I have not been back to the store front since I found the leiny drinker.

About $30 at the pawn shop. Ask all the questions up front. I prefer a store front in case something doesn't go as planned.

Thanks for the links. Gunbroker's search linked me to some good/reasonable transfer fees close to home. I won't say what I a ordering because I'm sure I could hear the sound of all the Predator Masters users laughing all the way out here when they read that I was buying a mouse gun.

Tripod makes a good point about asking questions up front. I just transferred a gun in and it cost me $50 + tax. A few other places advertised for much less than that but after talking to them about the "TOTAL" out of pocket price, they said they also tack on 10% of the purchase price for the gun. Depending on what your buying it can knock the price up. When it came down to it, it was easier and cheaper for me to send it to the shop where the gunsmith I use was to have the trigger turned down.

Depends on area and the dealer some of them are not wanting to do transfers thinking it is money out of thier pocket when you buy on line at discounts they do not get the mark up. 25-45 Bucks usually is a broad average. I always remind people when this comes up to give your business to the guy who will do the transfers, after all when you buy a new rifle you always need a scope, ammo, gun case, sling, ect. The acctual purchse price may be the big ticket but them incedentals mount up fast as well. Give the dealer a taste any how

I'm with you blinddog, but have to say how many times we have been left out in the cold by the local shops. First they don't have it. Then they cry that they have to order too much just to sell one. Then they find out it is not available because they don't have the buying power or the lower level of commitment makes the product cost more.
Even the big stores have difficulty delivering. Sportsmans Warehouse often has voids in stock and when asked they say, we don't know what we will get until it arrives.
Being a Beretta stocking dealer requires somewhere around $25,000 minimum initial order which is split up into several categories including gun cases and apparel. Non stocking dealers costs are higher just by adding shipping and not participating in specials.
These types of minimum inventory purchases are happening in all areas. A local Husqavarna small engine dealer nearly went under trying to meet the minimum while Lowes didn't have a problem.
We have spent quite a bit of money at local shops, often catering to them because that was all that they offer. Only to find them going out of business, one after another.
Many people have great difficulty finding Black Hills Ammo including us. Cabela's has it on the shelf. Another reason they have been in business for so long. Maybe I should stop saying that so they don't sell out.
Most local shops don't have the time to look for or watch the internet for days or weeks to find a gun or scope because they can't buy it through the easy channels.
Just trying to find popular factory ammo in the bullet weight you want is difficult. Order it locally and pay 20-40% more.

I am kind of fond of a friend of mine who charges me nothing for a transfer and I pay her price and shipping for the things I want. She refuses me every time I try to give her something for her trouble.

I use a scaled fee. $25 for single gun, and $20/ gun on multiples. I know I can't have everything in the shop to keep everyone happy. Most of what I do keep in stock I am able to price competitively to any other place.

My FFL/Gunsmith charges me $2. Of course he is a retired school teacher working out of his garage, and my grandparents rented a house from his parents while my dad and grandfather built the house my grandmother currently lives in. That could have a little to do with it.
