I've been a predator caller for years but never trapped before. Decided to get a license and try it for the first time this year. Got my first catch today. A female bobcat. Now when people ask if I "caught" anything this weekend I can honestly say yes.

Is that not common where you are? He’s using a cage made for cats. We catch them in the small cages used for coons with nothing but an egg for bait. No we aren’t targeting cats, we’re targeting coons and possums, but catch Grays and cats quite often.
 
We use a lot of cages at plantations because anyone can set them and check them. At my son’s plantation they have about 100 out at all times and just bait with a regular store bought chicken egg. We use cheap can (pop top) cat food. We’re mainly targeting coons/possums/armadillos, but catch everything except coyotes in them.

Yes, leg holds are illegal on public land here.It's a Camtrip Cage. Mercer Lawing makes them. Designed for bobcats. Most trappers and in Arizona run cages

Around here it's mainly skunks and greyfox in addition to bobcats that get caught in cages. Getting a coyote in a cage is considered quite an accomplishment. It's rare but occasionally happens.
 
Made a couple foothold sets yesterday and this was this mornings check…

Sets were about 150yds apart and thinking it might have been a female and her kitten. The big cat came on a flat set with scat I found. The small cat fell for a dirt hole set.

Not sure what lure you use but Jameson’s Sierra Mist and Magnum Cat LDC is fire down here. I use it for coyote and cat sets. The LDC has a hint of skunk that really draws them in.

Sierra Mist and Magnum Cat LDC is my ONLY go to when targeting cats. If I was given those two lures and 1 trap and told I couldn’t eat again until I catch a cat, I’ll be eating the next morning…providing there’s cats to catch.
