Sorry for the delay!
I drew up a quick google map, I think it might be helpful for guy's to see a set up, I think it could be helpful like many have been for me.
Some of you might remember seeing this map before. That would be because this is the same ridge where we had taken our first just on the opposite end of the ridge.
The yellow circle show's our first stand where we was calling toward's the north east. Had our back's to a barn and a public road behind that. We probably wasn't on that stand for more then 20 minutes because the sun came up and boy was it bright. We have permission to hunt the other side of the road as well and had thought about going over that way so we would have the sun at our back but a truck drove out that ridge so thankfully he made our decision for us.
The white line show's our path to the 2nd stand, Blue dot is me and the red is John. Purple line is near enough to the path the coyote took coming from east to west.
So we get to our 2nd stand and John sit's up his decoy. We both get settled in and John start's calling. As you can see by the map I am sitting beside a wood line on my left. I'm paying most attention straight ahead of me, at the end of that field is a logging road where we have seen track's and scat before. From time to time I'll glance over my right toward's John and try to look behind us a little. We was somewhere between 10 and 15 minutes into the stand and I glanced around behind me again then went back to watching towards that logging road. It could'nt have been more then 20 second's and I hear John lip Squeeking ( which either mean's time to go or something is going on) so I look around and my eyes go straight past John and locked on the yote that could'nt have been standing more then 30 or 35 yards to John's 5 o'clock. The first thing I thought was wow this is really cool with that yote standing there and the sun shining up his back would have made for a cool picture. But that thought quickly went away and I started thinking how are we going to get this thing and about that time I see John whiped around 90 degrees. I heard the coyote let out a little bark and start to head back the way he came. I whiped my gun around but knew right off that i wasn't going to be able to get a shot off so I barked twice and the thing just stoped in his tracks and gave John a perfect 40 to 45 yard shot. KABOOOOOM... DOG DOWN!!!
This pic is my view looking toward's the logging road.
This going from my left to right is the decoy. Hard to see but i have a red arrow pointing to the decoy.
Again going from my left to right I have John pointed out with the red arrow. The black circle is about where the coyote was when I first seen him and the white dot is where he went down.
This pic show's Wylie in his final resting spot looking back at where John was sitting which is just above the brush pile between the outer 2 tree's.
And of course the hero shot.
John was a one man wrecking crew on this one. Congrats to him!
Oh yeah and he was quick to point out that his yote was 4lbs heavier then mine.
