My typical hunting routine starts with getting up long before daylight, packing a lunch, making coffee and hitting the road. I am usually to my first set before it gets light and have to wait 5-10 minutes for light to set in.

Well today I took a different approach. I didn’t intend to get up and go hunting but my mind had me awake at 5:15 and I decided to get up and go.

I didn’t make it to my first set until a little after 8 which was about an hour after daylight. I got set up and started out with some coke squeaks at half volume.

Within a minute I spot a coyote heading for the call about 200 yards out. I must have set up right on him. I shut the call off when he got to 100 yards and lip squeaked him at 40 yards where I took the shot and dropped him.

I made 3 more sets before heavy fog rolled in and I called it a short day.
