First time Pistol buyer wanting 1911

So Ive wanted a 1911 for as long as I can remember and have been spending my money elsewheres and trying to become a responsible adult saving money and whatnot. But Ive had enough of that and plan to buy my first 1911 in 45 acp. Been cruising the local gun stores and have found a few I like the look and feel of but wanted your alls opinions first. The guy I normally deal with has been a rock island arms dealer for quite some time and says he has had no complaints about this company but Ive never heard of them. I dont want something to break the bank and am just starting out. I like to trade and buy often so Im sure this will not be my last pistol or 1911 for that matter but wanted a full frame semi auto to start on and then go from there.

So is this a brand you know of? pros cons? or should I dive right in with a taurus or other more expensive 1911. Thanks in advance
 
Just picked up a S&W .45c today. Hope it shoots as good as it feels. Being a Lefty most 1911 .45s arent made for me .
 
I bought a Rock island GI model about 3 months ago and I love it. Very acurrate and reliable. I have made some mods to it but only because I wanted to not because it needed them.

Rock Island GI model... only thing I changed was put on a set of Pachmeyer half wood grips. Absolutely love it! Great entry level 45, and you can save a bunch for ammo and accessories!!

Springfield GI with pachy's as above. Less than 100 through it (sat on a shelf) before I converted it to a .460 Rowland. I really like 1911's, but never used it as I carried Glock.

About 100 through since. It's getting new sites, some port work, and probably 'coted in the next few months.

It was a gift, but all told it will probably be a $1000 pistol when I'm done. RI is supposed to make good budget 1911's, Ive thought about getting one since I want a .45 acp

I would second the Rock Island, I have one with zero problems. The GI model has small sights, but for a bit more you can upgrade to the "tactical" model with novak knockoffs. Very good gun and great customer service.

I would also take a good look at the Para Ordnance GI expert. By and large I am not a Para Ordnance fan, but they did a good job on this gun and the reviews prove it.

You can get into a good 1911 that will treat you right for a long time for under $600, but be warned, you will want more.

Coyote 204 are those upgraded sights? One of my concerns were the stock sights because I really preferred the tauruss' sights. You all are being a lot of help and makin it hard to wait. Very nice guns guys. I wanna start with a budget gun first because I'm sure ill upgrade it as I did with my first AR and end up with a lot of dough in it. And I'm sure there will be more pistols to come. How much is the ruger if you don't mind me askin. That's a slick one too

I bought the sights from Midway and installed myself. I bought the gun for $389 new and have right at $525 in it now with two extra mags.

I went for the S&W 1911 target model. I wanted it for pin shooting and didn't want to wait for the mods to be done when i could just pay for it all at once and be done with it. Great shooting gun and very accurate.

I would go with the springfield GI over the rockisland, I have owned both.

If you cant work with the GI sights, then prolly neither. The sights are an expensive upgrade, I think the run about $200 to start, because they have to mill the GI sights off. If you were thinking that rout, than I would think about a more expensive 1911 like the ruger, or the springfield A1, I really like the PARA's too.

I personally like the GI sights, it just depends on the purpose of the gun.
