First wolverine

I went out yesterday to do some calling and check some traps i had set out. The first set was a place i had scene a bunch of coyote sign and had some snares set up around a spruce tree with some bait under it. The first time i checked it the bait was gone and had saw a set of wolverine tracks come by. So i set a cubby set right next to the same spruce tree i already had setup . When i walked up to the set i noticed something was different, nothing in the cubby but as i looked up at where i had pulled down a dead alder branch to cut off one of the routes it was now laying on the ground "not the way i left it" .I looked to the left and Holy $*%@, there he was hanging by my snare right around his neck .

It dident look like he put up much of a struggle and man was i excited, my first wolverine and it was my first time i had actually snared something and trust me i certainly have been trying .

He dosent have a bright diamond on his back But he dose have some cool markings on his throat. I sure am proud of him and he will make a nice trophy for my collection .

Thats freaking awesome!! I just love the name "wolverine", sounds kick a$$. They look awesome to. He looks BIG, whats the weight on him/them?? I heard they can be mean also, any truth to that?? That would go great with any trophy collection. Either a full mount, or a rug mount would be awesome!! Once again, congrats!!

Thanks everyone, I just skinned him out last night ,I think i am just going to tan him for now but i did case skin him so if i wanted to later i could get him mounted or made into a rug. I weighed him out at 38pounds which i think is a pretty big in wolverine standards. My old man came over yesterday to check it out and said that its about as big as he has ever caught and he usaly gets about 4-5 a season. I finally got to use my "coyote carrier" that Desert Dawg made for me and boy dose it work slick. I wonder if he would consider changing the name of it ...

I know a guy who has a full body mount of a wolverine he got while in Alaska. It has got to be the coolest mount I have ever seen. I would LOVE to have one.

Did you leave the feet/claws on?

Thats awesome I envy the guys that can trap in the true sense. I am stuck trying to get a kitty in a box trap. Your lucky to be able to trap.

Awesome catch. They make really cool mounts.

Lucky, Way to go, I remember when we cought our first lynx and wolverine. Sure, wished I would have had them done out for the house. I was to much in the trap/sale mode back then. Since, I have had a couple of beaver, otter, coyotes and one bobcat done out for the house. I use Mole mink tannery out of Idaho. They tan garment grade and taxidermy so you can do what ever you want. The cost to have your's tanned will be under 30.00 check their prices. I really like their work. They make great trophies hanging around the house.
