was out doing a little elk hunting the past couple of days and this am I was glassing a juniper draw and saw five coyotes traveling along ( all litter mates I'm sure) so I snuck down to with in 4 or 5 hundred yards and did a little wah wah with my sceery cow elk call, they looked up at me and if I could have read their minds it would have went something like this, " wow did you hear that, a cottontail ready to eat"
well they made it to with in 50 yards in less than 2 minutes, and they caught my wind and did the turnabout. It was fun watching the youngens trying to beat each other to the free meal.

That's cool. My favorite part is watching them come in. Even when I spot'em 1/2 mile away with a head of steam, I can't get over how much ground they can cover in such little time.

Those moments are priceless ain't they Howler? Makes a guy wish he had a mini vid camera built in his scope. Good news is there is still five coyotes out there you can call again later. Sounds like fun. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Take care, Curt

another part to the story, the day b4 I was sneaking around in the juniper I'd seen a nice bull go in the area, well as I was working my way around very slowly all of a sudden a coyote started barking at me and he was close, under 50 yards, I looked around and saw a coyote very close he was looking in my direction but it was'nt the one doing the barking, all this was with in 1/2 mile of the situation I discibed above. I stood real still, a little group of mulies about jumped out of their hooves a hundred yards away, I never did see the bull again he probaly thought the area was a little to crowded for his style.

I too enjoy watching them come in but my favorite part is when that smug little grin of theirs turns into "oh sh!t" that's not a rabbit!

Now please don't tell me I'm the only one who see's a personality change in a coyote. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Sounds cool Howler. Nothing beats an elk hunt in my book. I hunt almost everything from birds to squirrels and elk is the best for me large or small. And has got to be the best eating!!! Noting like watching an old bull bugle across a valley and seeing the steam come out of his mouth then hereing the sound...GIves me chills thinkin about it. Cant wait till next october to chase them again. GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR BULL

Tom64, I see it. I love the look they have when they are trotting in intent on a meal and then at the last moment while your looking at him through your scope he gets that oh $hit look right before you pull the trigger.

I love the added thrill of having not one but several respond to a call. When the all get to racing to get to you first is in my books better then any drug (street or counter). I also love it when you have two coming from different directions and at about 400yds out they notice each other and the race is on. That is truly a rush of addreline.

aaaah yes...
I love that look.

"damn... where is that freek'n rabbit already...?"

"hey... what the... that looks like a..." *WHAP*
hehehe /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
