It's been a while since I bought a new scope - and I went internet shopping yesterday for a scope... a Leupold 4.5-14x40 AO - CDS... for a Woof and 'Yote riffle I am putting together.

http://www.leupold.com/hunting-shooting/scopes/vx-3-riflescopes/vx-3-4-5-14x40mm-adj-obj-cds/

I find that every seller of Leupold scopes are selling them at the same (list) price, including SWFA and all the other 1-800 discounters.

Is this a some kind of new Leupold policy??

.

I just bought the same scope. I couldn't find any deals. I have a $15 off coupon if you want it. It is for an optics dealer that is not a sponsor so I won't mention the name. Send me a pm if you're interested.

FYI, the vast majority of optics companies have a Minimum Advertised Price Policy. So, other than a "store-wide" type coupon code, generally there is a floor to the price of the product. Many product lines have it, but especially optics. If you get free shipping out of it, that's probably going to be the best deal possible.

This is true for Burris, Leupold, Vortex, Mueller, and many others.

Was looking at the recent Cabela's Great Fall Sale flyer from the Billings Cabela's they were advertising 4.5 - 14. Prices for all scopes they had in VX 3 were $379 to $479./ You might check them out.

Thank you, but the one am looking for, Cabela's does not have.

So, from the above comments, is scope discounting pretty much gone??

Yup especially with Leupold. As JoeBob stated, if you can get free shipping out of it , it's probably the best you can do. good luck with it!

Happy Birthday WB.

I bought a scope from Optic Zone when they were offering the 9 % off, plus no sales tax and free shipping too.

That same scope would have cost me $150.00 more locally.

Dicks sporting goods has a sale two or three times a year which offers 20% off store wide and free shipping. They carry a very limited range of Leupolds, but if they do have whatbyourenlooking for, it's a dang good deal. I posted a link one time about the sale a nd my thread got deleted and I was reprimanded for posting a link to a no sponsor. Lol oh well, I tried...

As mentioned above, manufacturers have "MAP" (Minimum Advertised Price). You need to call around to get the best deal. I recently made a scope purchase and I found that when I called the seller's they were willing to deal.

I am also in the market for a backpack and I am finding the same thing. Most retailers have them at the same price, however, as I kept digging I found some that were selling for lower than the others, but it took some digging to find them.

Definitely not new. Been going on a very long time. Brunos somehow manages to get away with selling some models for less and still keeping their dealership........

The real control on pricing (MAP)for scopes typically occurs at the distributor level (what they pay) and then they typically mark the price up accordingly to the retailer who uses the same MAP scheme to set the customer price.

Occassionaly a distributor will sell less than expected mark-up to some retailers and (on occasion) some retailers will then pass that savings along. I have a gun shop I frequent where I can generally save $20-$45 on any given scope.

As an example, I recently bought a Leupold 2.5x8x36 VX-3 Matte finished scope there for $369.99 plus sales tax (not on sale). All other retailers in my area and all internet sources showed a price of $399.99 which probably follows the Leupold MAP pricing guidelines throughout the chain of possession to the consumer.
