Flanked again
We re-visited a new property we hunted on the 31st where we saw two coyotes but couldn’t get a shot that night. We waited until the moon was 30% and a cloudy night which made for a better setup as far as concealment goes, and tried again. The temperature was warm, about 60° and we were setup on the Westerly side of the farm by a single old wood post with a bunch of very tall weeds surrounding it. We were facing in an SE direction and expected to see coyotes coming from the SW or SE out of the plot of timber about 250 yards out... My ecaller was about 60 steps out and to the S of us with a 5 mph wind in our face. To the North of us about 200 yards was more timber.
We had changed our point of aim to the West when scanning heat signatures didn’t turn out to be coyotes. I scanned a hard right at 90° and seen a coyote just appearing out of the timber. Quickly I grabbed my tripod, pivoted, and squeezed one off. The coyote took a step just as I squeezed the trigger however, the bullet still found home and the coyote went down.
