FLIR battery life?

What kind of battery life are you FLIR users getting? I have an H-series on loan that I've been tinkering with. At first the batteries in it would not take a charge, so I swapped them out with regular alkaline AAs. That only gave me 30-60 minutes in 35 degree weather.

What are you guys seeing and at what temps?

Since the FlIR PS batteries are not user changeable, the lenght depends on the charge of course.
A fully charge will last us all night, but I do pop it on the car charger between sets.
Id say straight use, not charging 5-6 hours
 
The H-series he is talking about has removable batteries, not like the rechargeable built in ones on the PS-24 and PS-32 ones.

Basically, the mAhr rating of the batteries you are using are going to determine which batteries will last the longest. As a general rule, Lithium battiers will last longer than Alkaline due to higher mAhr rating, they also tend to leak less and have a longer shelf life.

Try Engerizer Lithium's, they would last the longest.

I use the BHS, which has a similar battery setup to the H series. I get a solid 4-6 hours run time off the NiCad batteries it came with, but the one time I did try a pocket full of regular AAs my lifespan was less than an hour.

A car charger is well worth having. Its nice to be able to just top things up.

You should also make good use of the sleep function if you aren't already. That goes a long way to keeping the unit warmed but not draining power when its not in use.

Good advise about the lith batts. Yes they do cost more, but they also do incredibly well over alk's in cold weather. Hope this helps a bit more.

Well I got into this situation because the batteries in it would not take a charge. I went to the powerX rechargable AAs I use for my FoxPro and that didn't seem to do much better. There may be a problem with the charger I suppose.

I'll try the lithiums.

With the flir ps32 and if know ill be running on low power i electrical tape a small usb power port that i plug into the flir. Flir told me this was ok. Colder it gets less time i get with the flir ps32 battery life.
