FLIR RS Series Thermal Scopes and Recoil Ratings

So straight from the website, FLIR says this..."MSR semi-automatic up to .308 Cal.".

So does that mean that an RS Series thermal weapon sight would not be warrantied if mounted on say a Remington 700 in .308? Or any other bolt gun for that matter? Assuming of course it's .308 or smaller.

I realize that may sound like a dumb question, but the specs say what they say. Any thoughts?

Well Pup, I would imagine you have reached a certain status with FLIR, in which they would probably warranty anything you have against anything you did.

However, notwithstanding your FLIR status, I'm guessing you haven't seen any ill effects running that setup on your 7mm? Or was it a one time and done kind of deal?

I'm just trying to cover all my bases before I drop another chunk of change. Oh how I love my M-18, but I'm ready for something weapon mounted.

G.

Hey G. It would be warrantied on you rem 700 .308. No issues there, nor have we ever seen one fail from recoil.

That is correct along with a SCAR Heavy. :)

Yeah I'm fully aware of the T-70/T75 series and their ability to handle heavier calibers. They are indeed wonderful pieces of hardware. And while they will certainly handle heavier calibers, they also "require" a much heavier wallet.

In all seriousness though, my concern about the RS series was not generated by a need for a heavier caliber, as any of the various .30 calibers are plenty sufficient for me. But not all of my .30 caliber weapons are semi-auto. And I wondered if the FLIR stated recoil ratings as listed for MSR semi-auto might not apply to a bolt gun...or any other non semi-auto for that matter. I wondered if a non semi-auto weapon (i.e. bolt gun) might limit, or prevent, one from going all the way up to the max stated caliber.
