Floor Plate Latch

Anyone ever have a floor plate latch snap in half. I've got a Ruger M77 MarkII in .223 stainless. Was out calling the other night and when I got back to the truck and dumped the rounds out of the mag, I couldn't get the floor plate to close. I stuck it in the case and headed home. Upon close inspection found the plate latch had literally snapped in half. Now remember the plate latch on this one is in the front of the trigger guard. I found no signs of trauma to the part. My buddy said that type of problem is not uncommon for Rugers due to their casting process.

Not a big deal, it's a 7$ (with shipping) part and easy to install. But, I'm without my .223 until I can get the part shipped.

Just wondering if anyone ever had any similar problems.

Your buddy is right, I have had problems with the ruger cast floor plate latch and trigger guard assembly. If you snug up the front trigger bolt very much you will probably find the trigger guard breaks easy as well. I just replace them with steel parts when they bust.

Unfortunately, the guns that I have had to replace are the old M77's tang safety not the mark II. When I did it, I ordered it from brownells and I think it was made by MOYERS. Sorry I couldn't be more help, I would order a couple of the latches to keep one on hand.

Was planning on ordering a couple. Thanks for the heads up. I'll take a look at Brownell's and maybe Sinclair too before I order from Ruger.
