FN SCAR

I got the opportunity last week to shoot a few magazines through both the 5.56 and 7.62 FN SCAR. Both were select fire. I have to say that they are really cool looking rifles and both, especially the 5.56, were very easy to control on full auto. The rate of fire on both is slowed way down. Seem to be about half of what an M4 is. I have shot many automatic weapons, but never anything bigger than 5.56. The 7.62 was a blast.

Now my wheels are turning to figure out how I am going to sneak one in the house. AR's are easy. They all look the same to the female scrutiny in my house

Anyone ever shot one of these for accuracy? I am really lusting after a 7.62, but will forget it if they are not capable of the same accuracy as the various AR 10 clone guns out there.

Yeah the FN SCAR in .308 is on my short list of things to get when funds become available. It would be a great personal protection, home, and homeland defence rifle. TTT

SCAR's are sweet no doubt, and I am considering one for myself. I haven't decided between the 16 or the 17 just yet, but none of my suppliers have 17's right now. My main concern isn't about accuracy. I have seen guys run them in contests and they shoot just as well as any AR's as far as I can tell. May notice a difference shooting off of a bench.

My main question concerning the SCAR, can I buy one for less than I can set up an AR and have it totally tricked out? My most expensive AR setup is still 4-500 dollars cheaper than a SCAR 16, including optics. Can I build an AR10 cheaper than I can purchase a SCAR 17 and would I notice any difference between the two? My ideal AR10 build right now is comprised of a MEGA MA10 combo with the upper being the monolithic setup. Once this is built out, it probably will be close in cost of a SCAR 17.

The AR10 system has the advantage of having an abundance of replacement parts available. Part failures on either rifle is probably not likely, but they can occur. SCAR issues would have to be dealt with by FN. Just another thing to think about.

Personally in .308 you know the area target with an 18" barrel is 1200M so I think any choice as long as it fits you because we are all different then the SCAR will do what you need and more. . .. But mitchrapp has a great point about parts which raises what do you intend to do with it. AR10 platform I would go with the LWRC 20" 7.62 which is around 3,000 but is guaranteed 1 MOA at 1000M

I shot a JP .308 against a Larue OBR .308 and they both averaged the same grouping using your 147 FMJBT. Both were 18" setups. My socom 16 M1A with an Aimpoint will out shoot my AP4 DPMS 16" .308 out to 600 where with a 6X Leupold the DPMS will hit around 1 1/2 MOA
