Form 1 cans

Can anyone explain the process for a form 1 can. I'm looking at building my own can and was wondering how specific you have to be with the plans when you submit them to the ATF. Can you have different thread adapters and different size baffles for a multi caliber conversion or is it a one and done type deal?? Can you make changes to baffle stack once its serialized??

the basics:
no work until you get approval and the stamp.
you dont submit plans for a form 1, just fill out the form with caliber and overall length.

by thread adapters I assume you mean for mounting? My suggestion is build it to screw onto a brake. brakes are not suppressor parts and act as sacrificial blast baffles. you can mount brakes on multiple rifles, and use one can on them all. I suggest you make a .30 can, and you can use it on .223.

you can only have one can and no extra parts with a form 1. One set of baffles, not multiple sizes. build it for the largest caliber and use it on smaller calibers.

You can't make new baffle stacks later, and no repairs/replacements except by an 02 SOT FFL.

the form1 is a federal requirement, not state based. its the application form for the Stamp required to posses a NFA item that you build yourself.

you'd be required to fill it out in any state that allows the NFA item you're trying to create on said form1.

if you were applying for a transfer of a pre-manufactured item, the process would be similar, except in the fact that you would use a form4. thats the application to transfer from dealer to end-user.
