6mmbr say`s it`s EASY?????????????????

I`ve heard other wise......

Give me your horror stories on forming this caliber...

Thanks,

Phil.

I form 6mmBR to a 20BR and do it in 4 steps. I don't know why going to a 22BR would be any problem. I can neck down a new Lapua 6mm in one step, just use a 22BR fl sizer die. On my 20BR I use a 6mm fl sizer no guts, then a 22BR fl sizer no guts, then a .237 bushing neck sizer and then a 20BR fl sizer with the explander ball. Going with the neck sizer in between 22BR and the 20BR fl sizers keeps me from crushing the case on the last step. You can use a form-trim die first then go to the 22BR fl sizer.

I formed 200 cases for my 22 BR with no problems, and no cases lost in the process.
Start with 6 BR, and charge on.

I recently built a 22BR on a 700 action. It's a nice mid-range (200-300) gopher gun that's fairly easy to reload for and shoots great.
The biggest problem that I encountered was starting with a set of Forster dies. Using their FL die to neck down the 6BR brass I discovered that Forster dies are made to tighter tolerances than most dies (normally a good thing) and therefore was actually pushing the shoulder back about fifteen thou. cuasing headspace problems. I tried a borrowed Redding FL die which worked alot better but I still had to fireform to get a good seal in my chamber. I talked to Forster's machinist a few times and per his recomendation bought a Redding form die. One pass through the form die and then a pass through the FL die worked out pretty good.
I also had to have Forster hone their seater die to acombedate the thicker Lapua brass. They only charge ten bucks but it was another hurdle to get over.
Please don't think I'm bashing Forster dies because I'm not. My first choice for a new set of dies is always Forster, and their seater die is the best out there IMO.
Buttt,,, for this cartrige I wish I would have started with Redding dies.
I finally ended up sending a couple of cases to Harrels and having them make me one of their Bushing Bump dies to match my chamber. Worth every penny of the $70.00, and I highly recomend doing the same, although I'm sure the Redding FL and/or Neck dies will produce good ammo too.
Soooo,,, After some trial and error I'm using three dies.
(1) Redding form die. (2)Harrels Bushing Bump die. (3)Modified Forster seater.
With the bushing die, you could probably just get an intermediate bushing for the initial forming, but the form die doesn't cost much more than a titanium bushing.

Hope this helps and feel free to PM me if I wasn't clear in my ramblings.

Good Luck

That's my take on it, too - it's easy.

My favorite p-dog cartridge, currently have three rifles chambered for it.
