Found a new used lyman deluxe expert press kit. With the xp1000 digital scale

It's brand new and never been out of the box.
Guy wants 300 bucks for it.

Good press? Can I used any die set for it?

Is the press the T mag or the Crusher II? That would make a difference. Look at Midway and search for Lyman Expert. They have four Expert kits retailing from $420 to I think $455. I have a Lyman scale and powder measure that I bought in the '70s and both are still working fine. The first press I used was a Lyman Spartan which belonged to my uncle. It had too much cam over for me, but the newer compound leverage presses are fine.

Outside of the fact that I don't trust digital scales, it is a pretty good deal. Before you buy check Midway for a Lee Classic Cast or Classic Turret press or kit and compare.

If those were my only two choices, I'd have to buy the Lyman. I had a Lee turret press for about 6 months, total POS. I sent it down the road along with everything that came with it.

I bought a Dillon and never looked back.....25 years later, it still works flawlessly.

I have a Lee "Cast Classic Turret" with heads set up for about 14 different cartridges, it is my go to press for loading. I also have a Crusher II for all my serious case forming.

I've been loading for fifty years and have had a lot of presses on the bench and these are the two I'll die with plus a Lyman Jr turret set up for the Bugs(218 Bee & 22 Hornet) and my 41 Mag.

Me too, mine are set up for 7 rifle cartridges, but I run it as a single stage.
Super easy to change over to another cartridge.
Also see no need to spend money on a bigger unit.

sure don't hear that very much. most guys are pretty happy with them.

what was it you did not like about it?

What are you going to be reloading with it? Rifle ,pistol or both? looked online it looks like a solid kit.I bleed blue lol Dillion has the basic reloaded press for 275.

I like the lee breech lock system..... can set up die to proper depth and just switch em in and out without screwing dies in and out(12-40ish revolutions)..... really good idea... 1/4 turn to put in sizing die 1/4 turn to take it out and 1/4 turn to put in seating die etc.... 1/4 turn to put in pistol die...etc....

hornady makes lock and load which is similar but costs a little more....

I started with a lee loader.... lee stuff has always worked for me....

lee collet neck sizing die is a die i get for almost every rifle i shoot...... that and a redding body die...

Okie Dokie Press. It takes standard 7/8x14 dies so you can use any dies with it.

But the Lyman 1000 scale...

... I have owned half a dozen electronic/digital scales over the years, and thrown most of them away. But not the Lyman 1000. The Lyman 1000 is by far, the best one ever made for the reloading industry.

Buy the kit (if you already haven't).
