Well guys, do any of you have any calls that sound like what I listed above?

gray and red fox in distress?
Domestic puppy in distress?
Cat/kitten in distress?

These are three calls that I will buy, but the fox in distress calls are most important.

Do any of you make them? I am very interested, PLEASE get back to me on this as soon as you all can. Thank you all very much!

THO, The call that you made for me is proving itself in the field more and more each time I use it!

Bearmanric, Your squeeker has worked wonders for calling in those close foxes in the thick areas that I hunt!

Thank you very much to each of you.

Well, I for one do not make any calls in the sounds that you mention. One thing you have to keep in mind when dealing with closed reed calls is that the availability of voices, or reeds if you will is pretty limited. There aren't ut a couple of companies that I am aware of that sell reeds to call builders.

As for the sounds you mentioned, I think you can find most of them on Johnny Stewart CD's or tapes. I know there are some fox sounds from JS.

Even if you do not use the tapes, perhaps you could learn to use an open reed call to reproduce the sounds, and I think that with some practice that can be achieved.

The cat call, well, just grab the neighbors kitty, stuff it in a burlap sack and take it with you when you go to call. A few whaps with a big stick ought to get that feline going pretty good /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just kidding about that - sort of anyway /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Dan Thompson makes a call called the Pup Squaller. That might be a good one for the fox and dog sounds you are looking for. All Predator Calls has it here: APC

I have a 2 way squeaker voice I put in my calls that makes a pretty good kitten sound. I could even make you up something like the pup squaller. Let me know how I can help.

Hey moose,

I don't have one of yours yet! I have one of THO's and bearmans. Could you try to make me one? Would it be an opened reed or closed? I am interested in an open reed because of the variety of sounds that you can make on them. Please send me an email, post, or send me a message on the cost or if it even works out.

Thanks so much MOOSE, take care, and best of luck.

Thanks for the offer by the way.

Hey THO,

I went out with the rabbit in distress call that I bought from you on saturday evening. I called in a red and a grey but unfortunately I did not get them. The grey came in, about 30 seconds into my first sequence, and the red started circling about a minute into it. They were both VERY close and It was a thrill even though I did not get one. I think I learned the most on saturday night than I ever have in my days in the field. Thank you extremely much for the excellent sounding call, it also has unbelieveable craftsmanship! Awesome call!

LOL - now you know where that old expression "Sly like a fox" came from. I hate it when they do that - just sort of show up about 10 feet from you and you never saw them coming. One of these days I am going to have a heart attack because of fox and bobcats /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I've never heard a grey in distress, but the tape that JS has out of red fox distress would probably be best reproduced using a double or ( if possible) triple reed call because there seems to be at least 2 very distinct "notes" in there playing concurrently. The double-reed stainless JC voices, if tuned exactly right, come pretty close and I can get a very convincing cat distress by reversing the way I manipulate the end of the call when blowing. Rather than flare my hand as I blow, I start with my hand open and quickly wrap the end of the call to make a "Meow" sound. With the right amount of air and emotion, it puts tears in your eyes. I've got two or three of my own PREDATR CR calls that I've been able to get the perfect tune on with the double reed. The pup sounds can be made with any open reed with puppy squeals especially easy on a power howler or the Sceery AP-6. A lot of the other OR cowhorn howlers have trouble getting that high and still giving the user enough range of scale in sound.
