Foxpro Scorpion Speaker Problem

Ok guys I need some opinions about what to do. Last weekend my daughter wanted me to take her calling so I agreed to take her to my grandpas farm for an evening stand before my brothers birthday get together. About midway through the stand without seeing anything I decided to turn my call to coyote pup distress 2 on about 3/4 volume. It didnt take long and I noticed something didnt sound right so I turned it up a bit to be able to hear it better without getting up and ruining the stand. The speaker was making a crackling sound almost like a car speaker does just before its getting ready to blow. It wasnt doing it the entire time but whenever it would pause and then start back up is when I noticed it the most. I havent had the call long enough to know too much about it but surely the speaker should be able to handle full volume without any problems. I didnt notice it on low volume but I would like to get it fixed before the calling gets good so something more dont happen to it during the middle of winter. I guess my question is, is this sort of thing normal or do I need to contact foxpro and see about getting it fixed? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Josh

No I havent. You think maybe low batteries would cause the speaker to distort? I can pick up some new batteries tomorrow and see if that works. I sent an email to the service department at Foxpro to see what they have to say about it as well. Thanks for the reply, Josh.

Weird. I've got a CS24 that does exactly like your describing when playing that same sound (pup distress 2).

I've only noticed it with that one particular sound and even it sounds good up to about half volume. The louder I try and play it over half volume, the worse it sounds.

I know in my case it is not battery related. Bad sound file maybe? Just a guess.

Josh, please let me (us) know what FP tells you.

Will do. I emailed them kind of late so probably wont know anything until tomorrow evening but ill be sure to keep you updated. Josh

If it only does it on that one sound my guess would be that it is either a bad file or that the sound that you are playing is hitting frequencies that the speaker can't quite handle. Did you try it with a cone speaker and a horn speaker separately to see if it does it with both speakers?

Im not 100% positive but I think that the Scorpion X1-A only has one speaker and I dont have any extra speakers for it.

Yes the Scorpion only has one speaker. For some reason I thought you were talking about an FX5. I've read too many threads tonight.

Doggin,

Foxpros service department sent me an email back today stating that it sounds like my speaker is going bad and that I should send it in for repair. Im going to hold off and play around with it some more this weekend and see if it does it with other sounds as well before sending it in. If it does indeed do it while other sounds are playing it will be sent in Monday morning to get the issued resolved. Im hoping that it may just be a bad sound file like jackindistress said but I honestly dont know. Ill keep you informed.

Well ive noticed it does it with a couple of the other sounds as well. When I turn it up to full volume the green lite blinks. Is this because the batteries are getting low or just because its drawing so much energy from the alkaline batteries? It would be nice not to have to send the unit in. Im not the original owner of the call and I dont know how it was treated before I got it. The exterior looks good but it could of been dropped or something to cause damage to the speaker in which case they wouldnt repair it without me having to pay for it. Im just stuck on what to do. Im getting ready to go buy some new batteries and see if that helps anything. If not it will be sent in first thing monday morning. Thanks for the help, Josh.

First thing I would do is put in a fresh set of NiMH batteries, 2500ma if you can find them. My old Johnny Stewart MP3 caller will distort and the sounds are scratchy and muffled sounding when the batteries get low on it. When the Batteries in my Foxpro Spitfire get low the low battery light will flash and if I turn up the volume more it just shuts off.

If you had an external speaker that you could try on it that would tell you if it is the speaker or not but I bet it is your batteries. When I first got my Spitfire I tried using regular non-rechargeable Alkaline batteries in it and it would just shut itself off when I tried running it at full volume with an external speaker attached. I switched to NiMH and have not had any more problems with it.

I did put some fresh alkaline batteries in it and didnt notice it as much but still does it. Im going to go ahead and send it in just to be safe. Ill let you know how it goes.
