Freeze Branding Dogs

If I knew how, I would, but I don't so I haven't.

I have read how to do it, but I have too many irons in the fire already(no pun intended).

Here's a couple of problem brands. Hope someone can learn from our mistakes.

This brand was put on this mare in 2002 or so.

On the white haired hide we leave the iron longer in an attempt to go beyond turning the hair white. The idea is to kill the hair follicle and create a bald brand so that the brand can be easily identified. Notice the Double CK (shadow). That wasn't what we were going for. This mare made a move and the iron came off before we were ready. We learned that the best thing to do when this happens is let it go and see how it turns out.

The vet put this brand on Tucker when she was out for Spaying.

I am not sure what went wrong, cause I wasn't there. But I think it is grown in and is as good as it is going to get. Next time we will shave the areas that didn't turn and leave the white hairs to guide our iron. Hopefully we won't end up with a Double CK.
