Fur Grade

I hope some people could share what they know about how a fur buyer grades the fur on Bobcat-Coyote and other stuff. Far as I know they go off the length and color. Is there any little things that stand out. I do know holes and stains is a decrease. And females that have had kittens sucking on them will also decrease it. I think most want the nevada strecth just cuz it looks better. What makes a cat an A+ or B. Well maybe someone could share some info.

I dont know much about fur grading. But I think the color overall of the animals fur has alot to do with grading as far as an A or B goes.I have read many times that the belly fur and spots on a bobcat are very important in determining their grade.

I have read in NAFA's information that if a pelt has more than 3 bullet holes it is considered damaged.Less than 3 then probably not considered damaged by just the # of bullet holes anyway.Just a little info I have picked up over the yrs.

The biggest factors are the color/clarity of the belly and the length. An A belly is wide, white as snow, and has spots. A B belly may be white as snow but now very wide or maybe could look like an A belly but has some stains from milk or other things. The length is a big factor. The cut offs are 40",36",32", and anything smaller than 28" is a kitten and probably shouldn't have been killed. They are very serious about the size. If your cat is 39.99999999999999999 inches they WILL NOT give you the 40" mark. They want to make as much money as they can getting the price as low as they can. So if you have a cat that's close to a cut off do your best to stretch a little extra out of him to insure you get that size. Spots are also helpful especially on the back. If a cat has a plain boring back with no character it will be docked and not be worth as much. The fur length also comes into play but that mostly just depends where your trapping and what time of year it is.

Thanks it does help. Will post some pics and how stuff sold when I get it done. Have some good ones. Just don't want to brag, until somebody checks them. I can say over 40" and all the good qualitys that need to be. I weighed the biggest and it was 38 lbs male

Well I got my cats sold today, very pleased with price had two different buyers look them over. I'm not going to put up prices. I would like to put pictures on here but my phone don't want too and its my only source of internet. Blackberry phones suck by the way. If I do find another way to put the pics on here I will. I think everyone in my area done good today. Can't wait till next year. I grew up around trapping and I hope it don't get out of control. I agree with most don't need every scavenger out trying to make his fortune and ruin it as a way too enjoy the real simple life.

if you get a female you need to cut the nipples off with toenail trimmers and womens beauty stores has stuff for the hair that makes it pure white so you can get the stains out i don't have any here so i can't tell you the name of the stuff but the store people can tell you.that is the only way i have ever been able to remove the stains.and i have had fur buyers feel the belly that is why i trim the nipples

Its funny that about 20 min before i sold my cats someone told me two pinch them off with my fingernails, so i did real quick and the buyer never checked that good. But i have seen where he did rub alot on other bellys. Still trying to figure out how too put a pic on here. Thanks for the good info everyone.

You have to have like a photobucket account or something like that. Or send them to my email and I'll post them for you. I'll send you a PM with my address.

Here are Wintermote's cats. I am a real beginner at this fur stuff but the one on the left looks real good. Nice cats man.
