Gas prices

I remember being able to grab the rear bumper of that car and lift the rear wheels off the ground.
One of the kids in HS drove a VW Beatle. One Friday night a bunch of guys spotted it parked in front of a 24 hour restaurant which was a popular "after movie date" stop on weekends and got together, lifted the VW up and set back bumper down over the parking meter. Never did hear if he had wrenches in his car to remove the bumper or if he had to call someone to get his car loose to take his date home. He was very tight lipped about the outcome, guess he didn't want to give us, ummm, the perpetrators any satisfaction. Nobody asked.

I started driving when I was 12. I got away with it. When I was small but could see out of the windshield I do remember seeing the black chalkboard just after the attendant wrote $.10 cents a gallon. This was during a gas war, but didn't last an hour. My mom told me she went back and it was back to the regular price. By the time I was driving it was 27 cents a gallon. I am like others, my truck has been sitting more. The Nissan kicks gets used alot. 34mpg is average. With a strong tailwind I got 55 mpg. It's never happened again.😭 I am telling you the same truth. There is no shortage and the refineries are just sticking it to us. We really do need new refineries built. We would have to get rid of the EPA to start with. Blends. TX has 3 Cali has 5. TX weather I think we could get by with 2.
I have seen and remember the shortages the lines the even and odd days and remember Nixon telling the oil companies they had to lower the price or else. It was illegal but cool. It worked. We got cheaper gas.
Anyone here use a little drip gas? That's one thing we don't see anymore.

I remember the mandatory 55 mph speed limits and the lines. Had to drive from West Texas to Ardmore, OK and it was a puzzle to find a place that had gas. Even with driving a 73 VW Beetle, it was nip and tuck. Gas was .29 when I got my license at 16, southern NM. Worked in the stations in the day when a good salesman (crook) would make an excellent living robbing the tourists going through. Lowest price I remember was .27 at Ft. Sill in the 70-71 years when I was using my military scholarship learning how to shoot rubber bands in the U.S. Army (I was a typist).

The mandatory 55 mph was a joke in some states. I was headed to wedding in Malta MT and got stopped doing 75 mph between Glendive and Circle, I received a speeding ticket from the state trooper $5.00 and I could pay it to the Trooper, his comment was "Sorry we have to fine you to keep our funding".

I like the drive from Glendive to Jordan thru Circle. Hit the Runnings at Glendive both ways as a break.
