Ghilli suit

You can build and awesome one for about $50 worth of supplies and about 6 hours...but theyr'e gonna cost ya if ya buy them. I made a ghillie/poncho for winter calling out of a white sheet and red/brown grey and black strips of thrift-store t-shirts. It works awesome, it's invisible!!

Muleskinner & Redfrog:

You might make a visit to Bush Rag and take a look at some of their stuff. Pretty good prices and the kits are great looking. I have a Rancho Safari ghillie suit and I love it, but that particular suit is kinda heavy. You can find directions for the making of suits on Sniper Country and from another site I found a while back on Ghillie Suits. You can't find a better form of concealment in my opinion, I've used them for a long time and it just does the best at breaking up your outline. Make sure you bury your ghillie in the ground to get all the human and burlap smell off of it.

Good Luck

I cut the burlap inot strips. 1 1/2-2inches wide and 24inchs long. I placed thoses onto the coat.
1 1/2-2inches wide and 8inches long, and i placed thoses onto the pants.
I hand stiched the burlap which took a while to do.

If you biuld one out of burlap amke sure you pur fire retardant on it as burlap is very combustable if near fire. also they absorb odors very fast. What we find works really well is to put them in a plastic bag with sage brush for a couple of days. just remember that a guille only breaks up your outline not make you invisible so you still have to be careful of your moovements. they also tend to get hot during the summer months. to help with this cut a patch out of the back of the shirt and sew in some mesh for ventilation. some of my troopers have even sewed in the camelback water bottle so they don't have to move while in the hide. be very creative with what you want in the suit. and also continue to upgrade it. sorry for the post but there is alot more to the guille suit than most people relize.

i agree with bad medicine you can make ur own but i have a simpler way of doing it just take guni sacks rip em up to shreds and sew them on a piar of jeans and a shirt or on a pair of old coveralls!

Gillie suits r the way to go!

Warbird, got a friend that bought one for elk hunting works great and not to bad to wear either. works if you are hunting along forest edge but really stands out if you are in desert. haven't seen one that is desert colors yet. if anyone does please let me know.

I have a leafy wear suit and I dont think that it is bad at all. You can wear whatever you want underneath and can layer up as well. I have used it for 4 years already. A friend and I went elk hunting this year, both wearing leafy wear suites. I called a bull to within 20 yards, 3 different times and 4 cows twice within 30 yards from me and 10 yards from my friend. They never saw us, they only knew that they were looking for a cow elk and that there was nothing but trees around.
I have seen them for about 60.00 to 90.00. I have the advantage, but the mossy oak works great, just use to your surrounding area.

Just my .02 cents.

WARBIRD, my wife and kids gave me one for a birthday present two seasons ago and I am glad they did. I slip it over my $20.00 army suplus chemical suit (oder elimination) and blend into the surroundings. I've had coyotes stare right at me and not have a clue they were in mortal danger. Light weight and easy but remember that they can snag on barbed wire pretty easy.

yall should check out the leafy suit from shannons bug tamer. ive got one and love it. its sort of pricey but i got mine a lil to big so that i can wear it over my coverallsin the winter an its real comfortable in the summer. if u get to hot in it u can soak it down then wring it out an the moisture in the netting acts like an air conditioner. it is also real good at keeping the bugs out.

Thanks for all the postings guys, this is a great bunch of people to share information and stories. I haven't quite decided to make my own ghillie poncho yet but sounds good. Will have to check out the leafy suit too.

GET SOME LEAD IN THE AIR !!!!!!!

I'VE USED LEAFY WEAR FOR ABOUT THREE YEARS NOW MAINLY FOR WHITETAIL DEER HUNTING AND FILMING.THIS YEAR I HAD A MATURE BUCK STAND WITHIN 6 INCHS OF ME WHILE SITTING ON THE GROUND.I BELIEVE IT'S ONE OF THE BEST AND CHEAPIST OPTIONS.I BOUGHT ONE SUIT FOR $22.00 ON EBAY 2 MONTHS AGO.

I have the Cabella's Ghilli suit in Realtree and i think it's great, but, lately i have only been using the head cover with my normal camo and get into a bush. Had one come 10 ft from me last saturday. We had a staring contest for what seemed 5 minutes. He would'nt look away so i could draw on him, but he could'nt see me either. I wear glasses and its hard to hide the shiney grames but the ghilli head wear does a pretty fair job. Tommy says i look like Bob Marley or Lenny Kravitz with my "dreadlocks".

Warbird,

I have the Game Winner brand, in advantage camo. I think it just depends on your area, we have alot of timber and grasslands so the Advantage works really well, but I've also seen Mossy Oak and that works well to.
