Glock 30 conversion to 10mm

Has anyone ever converted a 45acp over to a 10mm? I was on Lake-storms website looking for a after market barrel for my glock 30 and saw that they make a conversion barrels for a 10mm. If was to get a 10mm barrel for my Glock would I have to get 10mm mags or will the mags for my 45 work for the 10mm round? Also who makes a pretty good after market barrel for the glocks?

Thanks Rick M

I think you can turn a 10mm into a 40 S&w with their barrels but not a 45 into a 10mm. You could do a 400 corbon, 45acp necked to 40.

I think the 45 and the 10mm are about the same frame size not sure though. They had that one to but I was suprised to see the 10mm barrel so I thought I would ask before attempting it.

You have to use 10mm magazines. .45 mags will not work. You may have to change spring weight also since the 30 slide is lighter than the 29 slide. The frames are exactly the same.

If you measure the face of the slide on the .45, I think you will find that it is too large for the casing of the 10mm...While the frames are very much identical, externally, the slide specs are not...

The 10mm round is 2.25" and is slightly longer and narrower than the .45acp..The magazines for the .45 will not hold a 10mm and the 10mm magazines will not fit in the frame of the .45...

The cartridge of the .40s&w is basically a short 10mm and was designed after the FBI found that their original desire for a high capacity, more powerful handgun originally spec'ed for the 10mm was too much for the average agent to handle, so the .40s&w was 'born'...

In the Glock line, you can switch calibers between a 10mm and a .40s&w by going down from a 10mm, but not up. You can also convert the .40s&w to a .357sig with a conversion barrel/spring change..

In the .45acp, there are more powerful conversions to be had in which the same slide and frame can be used, but just not to the 10mm..

Pretty sure you can convert a Glock .45 ACP to 10mm with a conversion barrel. You cannot reverse that and turn a 10mm to .45 ACP without a new slide. Appropriate magazines and recoil springs are required. Bar-Sto, KKM, Storm Lake, Lone Wolf and probably some others I am unaware of make replacement barrels.

The answer is, "yes", with the conversion barrel. But a
number of after market barrel makers are discontinuing the
conversion barrel as the barrel is being blamed for unreliable
extraction. As OT referenced, the slide breech faces are
different, which is the cause of unreliable extraction. So
basically yes, one can do it, but the results are a range
gun which gives one plenty of practice clearing malfunctions.

Just buy a Glock 29, or Glock 20. My face hurts from grinning
shooting my G20SF. If fact so much, that I am considering
buying a second one, so I can have one on my night stand,
and one in my truck.

I've heard that the .45 slides are cut lighter and can crack if using them on the 10mm conversions with heavy ammo.

I second what Squeeze said, my 20SF is great. I'm thinking about adding a Gen 4 10mm to the stable.

I believe that even with the stronger springs the 10mm conversions tends to unlock and start moving back too early and some of the velocity suffers.

Sure wish I had a G-29 to compliment my g20!
