I am going to be getting a new upper for my AR-15. Not sure what I want to get yet [beeep]. I am going to be shooting 45-55 gr rounds so I am thinking a 1 in 9 twist rate. Any suggestions on that? Also I am going to go witha 16 inch threaded barrel as I have a suppressor that I will be installing on it as well. Think I should go with a slightly longer barrel?

Any suggestions or comments are welcome!

You want to double check on the use and ownership of a suppressor in Missouri... I know there was a proposal to allow ownership, but not sure if it ever passed....

The last time I heard, it was still illegal to hunt with one..for many years, it was illegal to even posses one unless you were a Class 3 manufacturer...or active law enforcement with your department's written authorization..

A 1/12 twist will work well with up to 60gr bullets, but if you think you might go heavier, the 1/9 is a pretty versatile twist rate...

I used to have a 1/14 twist on an AR and it shot the lighter bullets extremely well at higher speeds and longer distances, but 55gr was about it's max weight and still give me excellent accuracy..

Unless you are planning on high volume shooting, you won't need a bull barrel, but one of the better quality standard contours should work really well for the use you stated..

Butchtango, I have no experience with suppressors (would if Iowa allowed them), how much is it going to add to the length of the barrel? I would assume being as a personal defense weapon that you would want to keep the total length as manageable as possible. I have 2 Bushmaster uppers with 9 twist and am very happy with the way they shoot the 50 to 55 grain ammo. Just my 2 cents, Dave
