I took the opposite course. My degree is in biology and I worked for a state wildlife agency for four years after graduation. I then left that position for a law enforcement career. I do not encourage young people to pursue a LE specific degree. LE degree plans are very narrow and really restrict the type of jobs available to you. A wildlife or biology degree will open more doors in a wider variety of fields. An agency can and will teach you to be a cop if that is the position you seek. However, they can't easily convert a cop to a biologist. Same can be said for any teaching position, such as a school teacher. The LE degree may be nearly useless for that career path if that is where you end up with the most interest or opportunity. You may discover you don't like being in LE after some time in the field and then you are sorta pigeon holed at that point with a LE specific degree. My best advice is to call the agency in question and speak to someone in Human Resources and ask THEM the questions directly. Then go to your college adviser and do the same. The best course of action is usually going directly to the source or running the most direct route. Asking here isn't it...
