thtas what im thinking .. right now i can only work third shift and its part time so its not alot of money. with the other its a full time job

I know a lot of WA Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Officers were prior LEO's. Here they both require the same State training and certification. Being a LEO and having experience would be a plus for getting into Fish and Wildlife enforcement at a time of convience for you. Good luck which ever way it works out for you.

I took the opposite course. My degree is in biology and I worked for a state wildlife agency for four years after graduation. I then left that position for a law enforcement career. I do not encourage young people to pursue a LE specific degree. LE degree plans are very narrow and really restrict the type of jobs available to you. A wildlife or biology degree will open more doors in a wider variety of fields. An agency can and will teach you to be a cop if that is the position you seek. However, they can't easily convert a cop to a biologist. Same can be said for any teaching position, such as a school teacher. The LE degree may be nearly useless for that career path if that is where you end up with the most interest or opportunity. You may discover you don't like being in LE after some time in the field and then you are sorta pigeon holed at that point with a LE specific degree. My best advice is to call the agency in question and speak to someone in Human Resources and ask THEM the questions directly. Then go to your college adviser and do the same. The best course of action is usually going directly to the source or running the most direct route. Asking here isn't it...

true i just wanted some opinions... for twra here they say u have to have a 4 yr degree in wildlife biology or mangentment .etc .. im calling today about it to see ...

I agree with GC on this one...I have a degree in Criminal Justice Admin and more than half of a Masters in Public Admin with a heavy emphasis on Police Admin and Constitutional Law...

To have switched over to a State Conservation officer, I would have had to go back for a bunch of Biology and Animal Science courses...

Being a LEO will give you some excellent experience in dealing with people involved in delinquent behavior, but animals and related projects is a whole different matter..and require a different set of experiences/education..

I know a guy who was a state trooper and then went to being a game warden. I think it was just a matter of transferring. I wouldn't do either.

i checked in on it the guys was right .. they said i still had to have a 4yr degree in biology or wildlife mangment....but i can go to a wma and work still have the same dutys just inside that property with no degree...
