good cold weather boots.

I have some junk 1000 gram boots now, my feet still get cold even with 2 pairs of socks and foot warmers in if I am sitting for more than 30-45 mins. Any suggestion for some good cold weather boots?

I got some Danner Pronghorn boots with 1300 or 1400 gram. I wear them and a pair of wool socks and my feet are almost to warm alot of the times when I'm out calling.

what kind of junk boots do u have? i wear a pair of muck boots with wool socks and my feet never get cold. i hunt a lot of creek bottoms so i need a rubber boot. they are warm for deer hunting as well.

I dont know some walmart brand $40 1000 gram boots.

I was in a deer stand for 2 hours the other day and my toes were almost numb.

that was with the foot warmer insoles and 2 pairs of socks on.

My personal experience is: Boot fit with the socks you will wear while hunting is more important than brand. Too tight and you will cut off the blood flow and the warmth. This is why one person loves one brand and the other person hates them. Water proofing is next, if the boot leaks OR your layer system is sub-par you will be cold. A polypropylene liner sock next to your skin will help the majority of your problems, then a wool sock over that will enable you to stay out longer than the other guy. Sweaty feet usually equal cold feet. Boots also need maintenance, waterproofing or mink oil or leather conditioner or just sprayed off will enable you to see cracks in the welds or whatever. Lastly, a boot dryer will start you off at 100% each day and allow you to stay out longer.

Ditto that!

I use a pair of Red Wings that I got on sale at Cabelas. Work well for me, but I have "warm" feet.

I'm having pretty good luck with King Caribou by Wolverine.
They have 800gm of thinsulate and uses Gortex. I also wear polypro sock liners and Merino wool socks.
The boots are made from cordura nylon, lightweight and supports well.
I like my Muck boots but my feet sweat faster and then get cold quicker. I'll wear them if I'm only going out for a short hunt.

Well I think the 40 dollar pair of walmart boots may be the first problem. I know I use to wear Rocky snow stalkers and I never had cold feet. Now they were close to 200 bucks 15 years a go. One thing you may do and this will only help you while stand hunting is to get a pair of boot blankets that go over your boots and you can even put boot warmers (like hand warmers but bigger) in there as well. I think Bass pro and Cabala's will have these boot blankets. Rick

yeah I think that is the main issue. Im gonna tough it out this season but when everything goes on clearance soon cause its the end of winter ill snag up a pair of good boots.

Lacrosse alpha burly 1200 or 800 thinsulate. Very warm I can sit 3-4 hrs with one pair of under armour socks in 20 degree weather no problem. If I'm yote hunting I never get cold feet while moving with these

I have been wearing Muck Boot Co. Arctic Sports. They are really comfortable and have yet to not keep my feet warm. They are a rubber/neoprene boot and I really like them.

My feet get cold easily, but since i bought Cabelas heavy weight boot socks and Rocky bearclaw with the 1000 gram its a whole new world!!

i really like my Cabella's Outfitter boots, 1000 gr insulation, goretex. a little more insulation may be better. I bet those 40$ boots are junk, they hurt your feet? I walked a lot of miles deer and elk hunting in my non insulated Outfitters this fall, almost brand new. I walked atleast 8 miles in one day with snowshoes hunting coyotes in my insulated Outfitters, feet were good. These boots are 6-8 yrs old, still don't leak. My old Rockies would leak after 2 seasons, usually.
For sure get rid of cotton socks, I only wear wool blend ones in the cold weather. Make sure they have no seams above or near the toes, the cheap socks might be like that, will cause trouble on a long day.

I have a pair of Cabela's Pinnacle boots that are fantastic. They go just below my knee. They are warm. They are dry (i have not tested them walking in a creek, just snow and ice). They are light. I've seen boots that were great, but heavy. I'm only 5'6" 135# with a bunch of health problems and I don't feel like these boots wear me out like some do. FWIW, I also own two pairs of Rocky boots, Cabela's uninsulated kangaroo skin boots and a pair of Irish Setters. In cold or snowy weather these are hands down my favorites.

I generally wear a 15+ year old pair of Lacross pacs with a liner sock and wool sock. I'm looking forward to getting a pair of Danner Canadian Hunters though.

I'd stay away from the Walmart boots. There's a difference between a bargain and getting what you paid for. With footwear, in my experience, there is seldom a bargain unless it involves a clearance sale.

Yeah I bought these when I was in college for hiking to class. Money was tight and I needed something other than my steel toe boots to get me to and from the classroom, steel toes are worse than wearing wet gym shoes when its real cold out.

Now I am making pretty good money 1 year after I graduated, when I got my first paycheck I went and bought a good pair of work boots, way better than the bobs bargin bin boots that I was wearing previously. From here on out its only good boots for me, my feet arent growing so I can wear them till they wont wear any more.

Ill have to look for some of your recommendations when the end of the winter nears and things start hitting the "bargin cave"

i wear a pair of military surplus mickey mouse boots with one pair of sox my feet never get cold.they are black solid rubber boots inside and out, ur feet can sweat in them and not get cold, u can find them at most military surplus stores and sportsman guide has them sometimes also. they cost around 50 bucs
