Good day of lion hunting

We had a good day on 12-26-08, turned my three dogs and three of my buddy's dogs loose on a snowed in track and his old dog ended up treeing it. We were really wondering what the rest of the dogs were up to. We got the trackers out and got a reading on his other two dogs but couldn't get a beep on my dogs. We went down the road and could hear his two treeing. We had to wade the river up to our waist(very cold)to get to them and they had another lion up. We finally got a reading on my dogs and after a long hike through deep snow we got to them and they had lion number three for the day. Pretty good day. We've treed three in the same day before but never from turning loose one one snowed in track. All three were adult females and were left in the trees.

Thanks for the kind words. The dogs in the picture are Nt.Ch.Gr.Ch.'PR' Jackson's Red Belle, 'PR' MT Red's Coon Slammin Sage, and Nt.Ch.Gr.Ch.'PR' MT Red's Bobcat Bustin Billy. My buddy had Gr.Nt.Ch.Gr.Ch.'PR' Bates' Bawln Boomer, Nt.Ch.Gr.Ch.'PR' T-top Hill Top Shelly, and Gr.Ch.'PR' T-top Timber Shaker. My buddy's dogs all came from T-top Kennels. My Belle dog is out of my old female and a T-top bred male. Billy is out of Belle and Boomer. Sage is out of Sandy Creek Jake and a dog named Lexus that is T-top bred. We have enjoyed a lot of success with this line of dogs. We hunt cats and coons all around the state and in the summer we travel out of state a lot to hunt the competitions. I live in central Montana. Mike I see you live in Lewistown. I do a lot of hunting over there. mtbadger, I don't have many lions killed over my dogs. I'm in it more for the chase than the kill. Where do you live? Also did you draw permits or do you have a general tag?
 
The first tree was only about a mile from the truck. The second was about 300 - 400 yards from the truck. The last one was more than a couple miles from the truck. We started walking to the third tree a little before noon and got back to the truck at about a quarter to five. We walked steady the whole time except for about twenty minutes of picture taking and dog petting.
 
Matt, we'll be at American Days in Garnett, KS in June. It will be the fifth year in a row at American Days for Mark and I. We were in Garnett four years ago and the weather was miserable. We don't go to National Days because our northwestern dogs aren't geared for the high humidity and July heat of the midwest and neither are we. Also American Days is usually a little closer to home. It's a little over 1300 miles to Garnett. I learned a valuable lesson this year. Pack water for your dog during the hunt. We hunt creeks and rivers up here but don't usually see any water at the big hunts. Billy was on a roll but wore down a little without hydration. I won't make that mistake again. Are you going?
