Does anyone know if there is a goose in distress call or what it would sound like? Does anyone even make such a call? Thought this would be a pretty decent call being geese are almost always hanging around in fields and cut cornfields. Can anyone help me out?
I just thought it would be a pretty decent call being that man made goose nests are made in the middle of ponds and such so that foxes and etc can't get to the nest. What made me think of that was I was driving home from work this evening and noticed some canadian geese gathered in the middle of a cut cornfield and also that my grandmothers neighbor had some pet geese on their farm that disappeared to the hands of some foxes..
Ok since I thought of this who wants to go in with me as a partner and get this ball rolling???? LOL /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Check with the city of Peublo Colorado- just saw on the news the other day they are having a problem with geese crapping all over the riverwalk there- they have been playing "geese in distress" over loud speakers to try and scare them away but it hasnt been working- so the news report said. LOL
I talked to a good friend of mine who is an avid goose/waterfowl hunter and on the field staff for Zink Calls. I explained my thoughts and he told me he had some goose distress sounds he would send to me. He also told me that when they go goose hunting that in some places they take some buckshot because they've had coyotes come in and try to snag their decoys.. I appreciate the help and thoughts from everyone but as soon as I get these sounds I'm definitely going to give it a whirl. I'm sure this should be a good sound and will also be different. I've already got a good idea worked up for a decoy as well. I'm thinking of using a turkey or goose wing that I can rig up to move up and down. I've got an idea I just have to put it together. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I once hit a goose with my car and put it in the trunk. I worked at a coal burning power plant with a cooling pond, and the geese stayed there year round. Well my goose was just knock out and came to life in the trunk. it did the goose distress and all the geese from the pond came to have a look. I was on the night shift so at about one in the morning a guy came into the control room and said that the geese were all in the parking lot sheeting on every ones cars and trucks. A few of the guys had there cars painted because of the geese scracthed the grap out of them when they were looking for the goose in distess. I never did tell anyone about the wounded goose in the trunk.

They use this call at a school football field near me. It isn't worth a [beeep] though. There is still goose crap all over the fields.
I had lost mallard on my Minaska Bandit and it did well with fox and coyote. Ducks and geese are on the menu and is a good sound to have in the arsonal. I ordered goose in distress with my soon to be delivered WT.
Jstrosnider- Where do you reside in WV? I hunt frequently in the Mason Co. area along the Kanawha. I have tried a goose call before, but time of year must have been wrong... called in a lot of geese and no varmints. I wish you the best of luck in your ventures. Send me a PM sometime and maybe we can hook up and do some calling.
I would think a goose in distress would work good year round. Especially here in West Virginia where I'm at because it seems there are always geese hanging around in somebody's field somewhere. I would also think using it close to a river, pond or lake would also be good knowing that geese like to hang out there.
