Got my New Frontier lower from Joe Bobs today!

My FFL called this morning to let me know he had received "a box of gun parts with your name on it." I told him I'd be right down. When I arrived he brought out the box and said he wasn't sure what to do with it as he had never received an AR lower. I told him that it is a serialized gun part that needs to be transferred to me. We filled out the paperwork and home I went with my new baby.

When I got home I put the parts out for a quick pic

I had the New Frontier lower, a Magpul CTR in FDE, and an Ergo grip also in FDE.

My plan was to swap the black grip and stock on my old lower over to the new lower and put the FDE stuff on the old lower.

I went about loosening bolts and swapping parts. While I had the grip off the new lower, I took the opportunity to switch the safety lever to the right side of the rifle, as I'm a lefty. It was easy as pie and I'm definitely no gunsmith.

After everything was put back together I snapped another pic of the two together. The New Frontier lower is on top and my older Bushy lower with the new FDE furniture is on bottom.

A couple notes about the new lower:
The trigger feels pretty good. No creep and I'd guess about a 6 lb pull. I'm no fine trigger connoisseur, so it will do just fine for me.
It weighs less than my Bushy lower, but not appreciably less.
The CTR stock locks up tight on the buffer tube.
Pmags snap right in and drop right out.

All in all, I think I'm going to like it. Can't wait for my new Bison Armory 6.8 upper to get here to try it out!

Oh yeah, almost forgot a shameless plug for Joe Bobs. Fantastic as usual. I ordered this lower on Tuesday morning, got the shipping notice 3 hours later, and my FFL received it today. Nice!! Thanks Joe Bob!!

The FCG is polymer. You can swap it out if you like, but I think I'll keep it in mine for a while. I cant wait to shoot it!
 
I might order one for myself to throw in the safe for now. Maybe a .204 build in the future. Id like to gear some feed back once you burn some powder.
 
I think I'll snap it on to my .223 upper and go shoot it next week while I wait for my 6.8 upper to ship. Once the 6.8 gets here, I'll give it a go on that. I'll post a range report after I put some rounds through it.

I don't know and only time will tell. The trigger and frame of my Glock are polymer and they have held up quite well. I convinced myself to buy this lower based on the durability I've seen with polymer framed handguns. The hammer being polymer is interesting. I don't intend to intentionally abuse it and I anticipate it will hold up well enough for my purpose. If it fails or sucks, I'll post about it.
 
Look at their website for the torture tests. They have a machine that runs the polymer tigger group 75000 times in 20 minutes. That's way more abuse than anyone can do in the real world. On a postal scale my plum crazy lower weighed 1.9 pounds and the regular aluminum lower was 2.8 pounds.
 
I have a PC and had to replace the polymer take down pins because they bent and the upper/lower had some slop, not bad though.


I hear people talk smack all the time about polymer lowers which most of them never even owned one.

I've been very happy with my PC and it's my understanding that the NFT lower is built out of a better polymer.

Well, I'll be darned. I have been messing with AR's for a couple decades and never head of a polymer hammer and trigger.

That is why I like these sites because I learn new things constantly.

I would definitely like to see how they hold up.

I have never heard of switching the safety around for lefties. Do you just take it out and put it back in from the other side and that's it? I feel kinda dumb bying all those ambi safeties for my wifes ar's

On the New Frontier lower you can remove the grip which exposes the safety detent spring and detent pin. Remove the spring and pin. Push the safety selector out, flip it to the other side, push it back in, replace detent pin and spring, replace grip. Check for function. Finito!

I installed an ambi selector on my Bushy lower a few years ago. Similar process, but I believe you need the ambi selector part, I don't believe the mil spec part is reversible.

Recently recieved one from JoeBobs (great pricing!)for a RRA upper I have needing a lower. Will be testing it out this coming Friday at the range..... we'll see.
