Why? For varmint/predator hunting? In daylight or at night?
You can have a tough time seeing where the dot is in daylight at anything beyond short distances, especially on a moving target. At night you will have to light up the target to identify just what kind of animal it is before shooting, which allows use of a standard scope. Even if you can see the dot through the scope, you don't need it, because...you can see through the scope and use the crosshairs!
If you are looking for a fast close range sight, a red dot sight (Aimpoint, Holosight, etc.) is more reliable to see and much faster to use.
Lasers are IMHO highly overrated, even on handguns, if you know how to use your sights and have practiced enough to ingrain good muscle memory in your presentation.
