Greenhorn in VA looking for a coyote calling education

I just learned about this forum from Dave Tatum and I registered last night. I killed my first and only coyote this summer while groundhog hunting around home in SW VA. I had never seen one until one week before that and in the next three weeks I saw 3. I've called a few foxes and I love the call turkeys so I thought coyote calling would be the next best thing to turkey hunting and I can do it year round. I took to calling turkeys pretty quick but I've learned this coyote calling is a little tougher! I've had coyotes respond but have not called one in yet. Of course about 1/2 of my setup have been ruined by dogs, cows, bulls, nosey neighbors, and land owners with cigars! Any pointers you can share would be greatly appreciated. I usually start a set up with 3 or 4 howls an wait then go to a distress call and finish with coyote distress.
I'm using mouth blown howlers and a western rivers digital call with a motion decoy.
Thanks

Welcome aboard. I can't be much help on the yotes because they just started getting thick enough to hunt inthis area, if you can find the areas they are in. I'm 20 miles north of Richmond and it seems they are showing up near the sub-divisions. I've always heard that in your part of the state there were plenty of yotes. From what you said about your calling it sounds like you should be successful by what I read on here. You might want to make sure they can't see you or your truck when you set up but you might already know that. I hope some more knowledgable fokes on here will help.

Go up to the top on the pined links, check out the "Calling Tactics and sounds" thread. great reading and lot of good info! There are about 10 pages of just about everything when it comes to Eastern Coyotes.

Coyoteducator what part of VA are you from ? I have a home on the Little River in Mongomery County about 15 mile from Christiansburg, VA. I am at my home in TN now. The people in Graysontown say they hear coyotes at times along the Little River.

bea175, I'm just over the Blue Ridge from your place. I live in Callaway in Franklin Co. I've done a bit of hunting in Floyd Co. mostly deer and turkey. I have a friend that lives in Floyd and he has a few places lined up for us to call but we haven't tried them yet, maybe this weekend.

I was deer hunting in Floyd last Nov. Floyd is couple of miles from home. I own about 40 acres of land in Mongomery County.

bea175 & coyoteeducator,

hey guys. I'm a SW VA boy myself. I hunt in Craig Co.

Tomorrow will be my first official coyote hunt. I seen my first coyote this fall chasing a small deer while scouting for bow season. Honestly, I wasn't sure it was a coyote. A couple of weeks later while waiting for the sunrise I heard what I thought was coyotes howling.

Now, I plan to give it a try. Calving on my grandad's farm is getting ready to start and I want to make sure I have presence.

One of you guys mentioned you were from Callaway. I have a buddy who lived on Clay Banks Rd.
