Im out west in ca and alot of the fox scat i see seems to be mostly composed of plant matter, mainly berries. Is this normal? Do grey fox really catch that many mammals, espically rabbits? I have heard stories of fox running from jackrabbit decoys. And we dont seem to have an abundance of rodents, im sure there are more than i see though.

All predators diet change as the season and availability of foods change. Here in OK. coyotes eat alot of locust beans when the pods are on the ground, berries when they are ripe and so forth. You are doing good to pay attention to their scat and diet. when you see that they are feeding on certain plants you only need to think about where that plant is located in the area and you have located a good place to make a stand.
