Grizzly G9247 Mini Lathe

IT IS WHAT I USE ON THE DOWN SIDE I HAD TO SHIM UP THE TAIL STOCK TO GET IT CENTERED AND THE TAIL STOCK TRAVEL IS ONLY 3/4 OF AN INCH MAKES FOR A LONG TIME BORING AND IT ALSO EATS BELTS
JUST MY 2 CENTS MINE STILL HAS MADE A LOT OF CALLS

The grizzly I looked at had rough belt pulleys which could be why paleotters Grizzly has such a healthy belt diet. Just speculating of course. The Rikon lathes are very nice lathes for the money & have been getting good reviews on woodworking sites. And the small Jet is just a wood turning machine. They are very good lathes for the money. JMHO

I have a pair of Rikons and lovem. In 8 months I have gone through 2 or 3 belts between both lathes. Just recently I went from a pinn 4 jaw chuck to a nova. Let me tell ya man there is a big difference between the two of them.

I don't know about this model, but I have a Grizzly 8690. It is a world class POS.

I bought a Delta L200 this summer for about $195 delivered. I don't know how it compares to the Jet but I love it. Check out this link and compare the specs. Also notice it says free shipping. This isn't the distributor that mine came from but it's the same machine. I got mine through Timber Line Tools. The have them for about $205 delivered.

I'll never buy anything with the Grizzly name on it again. Buy the Delta and don't look back. Dale

I repair shop equipment for a living. I do not turn wood. With that said, I hate working on anything made by Grizzley . Thats provided I can get the parts in the first place.

Dont sell yourself short or you will be buying another lathe. I have had jets and they do last pretty well. Save the pennies and make a sound purchase. Here is what I have.

It will do bigger things plus the small fine stuff. Like this 10 inch bento box bowl and for fine chop sticks.

I have a Jet and a Delta. you cannot go wrong with either of them. I prefer the Delta, to me the quality is just a little bit better, but I have no complaints on either.

Thanks to everyone for the input! I really didn't want to buy something I wouldn't be happy with, that is why I wanted to get all of your opinions. You guys use them all the time and I knew I would get some good input. All of my wood working tools are Delta, and I have had excellent service from each one. I don't think I am going to change now. Going to order the Delta! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

C_latrans, thanks for the tip and link, that is the machine I ended up ordering. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Thanks again!
