Another first occurred for me yesterday in my 61 years on this planet. I was up on the Rappahannock River shooting over some recently popped through the ground soybeans. I saw two groundhogs come out of a hedgerow together into the bean field. I waited as they worked their way out into the field. Then they separated some what. Eventually getting maybe ten or fifteen yards apart. I shot the one closest to me, the other being directly behind him, could see them both in the scope. It was a poor hit, but anchored him right there, he started flopping and flailing. I was still down in the scope as I saw the second groundhog charge the first. He should have ran to the hole at the crack of the rifle I thought. But, instead he charged the wounded hog, with soybeans still hanging out both sides of his mouth as he charged. He got to the first groundhog and started fighting and biting and slapping at him. I thought it was rather nasty for him to treat his buddy that way, so I killed him on the spot.
I have heard stories of coyotes doing this and even one tail of two gobblers acting this way after one is shot, but never thought I would see a groundhog do this. You just never know.
