Hay huntinco I see this is your first post. I'm not a moderator, but I'm going to welcome you anyway. This is a great forum for anyone who wants to learn more about varmint hunting.
I've been a Remington fan for more than 40 years, but for your accuracy money those Savage's really shine. I spent over 30 years with the 22-250 as my go to the woods coyote gun and it is an excellent cartridge. It is not fur friendly if you plan on harvesting hides though.
About 5 years ago for a change I went to the 243 for my coyote gun. I have two, a Ruger #1 and a Remington VLS heavy barrel and both are good varmint rifles, though the VLS is, in my point of view to heavy for a calling rifle.
Last year I had a couple of friends whom bought new varmint guns in 204 Ruger. I had a chance to shoot these rifles, one was a CZ 527 Varmint and the other was a Ruger #1. I was really impressed. The 204 shot as flat as any 22-250 I've owned and you could watch the hits in the scope when you made the shot.
A few months ago I bought a CZ 527 Varmint with the wood stock, blue action, set trigger and 25.5 inch medium heavy barrel. This gun is much lighter than my 26 inch bbl Remington VLS, but even more accurate. It's kind of like having the best of both worlds. A gun light enough to make a decent calling rifle and accurate enough to give most heavy guns a real run for their money.
I don't think you would be unhappy with the Savage if that was your selection and the 22-250 is one of the really great varmint cartridges, but you might want to take a look at the CZ varmint in 204. It sure impressed the dickens out of me and I've been doing this varmint shooting thing now for over 45 years.
Here's my first group from this little gun right out of the box. The only thing I did to this when I opened up the box was to pull the barreled action out and adjust the standard and set trigger.
Here's a pix of this little beauty. At around 500 bucks it is a bargain for the money.
Good luck on your search.
