Gun for squirrels

Quote:
Do you guys think shooting a 22 were houses are less then 3/4 of a mile away is a bad idea?

I think it's a bad idea but it's done all the time. I use a shotgun mostly for that very reason. A .32 round ball won't go very far.

I like using my Marlin #60 .22LR with a 4x32 scope. It's a tack driver. But if there's houses around, I use a shotgun.

Daystate Ph6 Precharged air rifle with Beeman Field Target 16grain .22 pellets. This one does the job out to 60yds and inside 40yds its lights out with a head shot. 4-12x40mm Swift scope. I have killed about 6 crows with it as well. It will do anything a .22lr will.

Camo,
I use a Marlin .17HMR, head shots only and if there were houses around I'd wait until the squirrel was against the tree for a backstop. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I don't care for shotguns, due to having to dig the pellets out of the meat. It's either that or another visit to the dentist. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Good hunting, Bowhunter57

Browning auto 22 or my favorite. A Sioux single-shot .410 that I bought from my uncle when I was 8 years old for 8 dollars. Almost 40 years ago. To me, that one is priceless.

Rimfire or shotgun. I pass on questionable shots and restrict my hunting to areas that afford safe shooting.

bowhunter57> Crochet needle works pretty darned good for cleaning game of shot, hair, or feathers.
