gun safe??

It looks like a good safe for the money. I would have to ask what the fire rating for the unit is. Every safe that I have been looking at says what the rating are.

I have a sentry file box that is fire proof and waterproof. I have not put it to the ultimate test yet but it certainly seems like a quality product.

That said, Sentry is more than aware of the fire rating scenario so the fact that they don't mention it tells me that it is not much. If it was well rated to fire, they would brag. Also, I looked up their web site and it showed 300 lbs for that model, probably not much concrete in that. Looks like this one is solely for security and not fire.

Cheers,

Update: I just looked again and they have a separate series of 14-gun "fire safes" $500 additional for 1200 degree 1hr rating

That is not a safe it is a securaty cabinet, it has no fire rateing because it is not fire proof. Save your money for about eight to twelve hundred you can get a real fire rated safe from cannon or many other suppliers.
The only good thing about that cabinet is that it will slow down theves a bit, and keep curious kids away from your firearms. Make sure if you get one to Bolt it to wall studs and Floor Joists with Lag Bolts. Other wise a burgler will rip it off the wall and take cabinet and all to a place where they can crack it open. A real safe also needs to be ancored to wall and floor but they usually wiegh in at four or five hundred pounds empty so an attempt to take the whole thing, is much more difficult. Also usually in a fire the smole and water and chemicals created by the smole and water do more harm than the heat. A real fire safe is usually air tight as well, the door has a seal around it to keep smoke and water out. I lost all my blued firearms ten years ago to a fire, smole damage did more than the fire> they were in a securaty cabinet like that one. I was told that during a fire the smoke reacts with the steam and water and creates some sort of acidic materiel that ruins gun steel, the top ten inches of all my blued carbon steel firearms was rusted and pitted to the point they were not salvageable. Good thing I had insurance it replaced all of them. But it was a real pain in the rear to have to do so.

I don't know if you guys out in MN have a Costco outlet, but they sell Cannon gun safes pretty reasonable.

It seems strange that one of the most anti-gun companies there is sells gun safes? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

I bought the same safe from Academy Sports and Outdoors 11/06/04 for $299. on sale.
I am not in what I would consider a high risk area. All residents around here are armed and do shoot.
Don't care for irreplacable firearms and have insuance.
Works for me.

I have one and like it a lot. It is not fire rated. I got mine more for the security aspect. It does bolt to the floor/wall and take 2 average people to move it. I also got mine on sale for $299 at Farm and Fleet.

Just bought a Cannon,"Executive Vault" at Academy Saturday /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif. Has a fire rating of 1 hr, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif set up for 24 long guns and weights in at 600 lbs empty. Has a lifetime warranty and was 799.99. Considering just 1 AR is worth that much +, it was a good investment, both financially and for piece of mind. Already have 20 guns, plus valuables, stored in it with a few go too guns still in places of easy access for protection use.
