A Georgia man with a concealed-carry license is being hailed as a hero after preventing an attempted carjacking and possibly saving a woman's life.

The harrowing incident was caught on surveillance camera at Fast Track Car Wash in Smyrna, Georgia, on Friday afternoon.

When a teenager tried to steal a woman's car, she jumped on the hood to try and stop him from driving away. Witnesses say that prompted the alleged thief to speed up.

A gun-toting bystander saw the chaos unfolding and drew his weapon, shooting the thief in the shoulder.

"The guy that got shot, he was falling out of the car and he was holding his chest. And he started shivering and shaking, and then he kind of flopped on the ground," witness Chris Roberts said.

The armed bystander, a Smyrna city employee, held the alleged carjacker at gunpoint until police arrived.

The suspect was transported to the hospital. He will be charged with felony aggravated assault and misdemeanor theft by taking of a motor vehicle.

They need to up that charge to a felony...

Another benefit of having armed civilians...

I would say that's very likely.
Can't see how deadly force is justified to prevent the theft of another person's property.

yes, i think that attempted homicide or assult with a deadly weapon (the car)

But, here in AZ they changed the law that allows you to shoot someone that tries to car jack you..

We really don't have that many of them here. Can't imagine why?

Black suspect, white shooter, unarmed mababy dindunuffin... Could get racism rants started, but it looks like a black woman on the hood of the car that he was trying to save.

Misdemeanor car-jacking charges are ridiculous. At minimum, grand theft auto; he did technically steal it, he just got shot while trying to get away. There is also vehicular assault on the owner of the car, kidnappping, although those and attempted murder are a stretch on her part, since she jumped on the hood.

We are talking Georgia, which is a 'Shall Issue' state, unless it's changed, there are no classes, no test, simple application and processing fee for a Carry Permit. Home of the only town in the nation that requires every household to own a gun. I would say, no the shooter isn't going to see any charges, and I really don't believe he will, but we are talking Cobb County, outskirts of Atlanta, home to the highest concentration of Obama voters in the entire state. One never knows!

if stiffer penalties were imposed some(and I say some)of these things wouldn't happen. That's half the problem with the criminal-judicial system. To bad the jacker lived-cause you know he's gonna do it again

years ago LA was having a problem with a lot of car jacking going on. They made it explicitly legal to shoot car jackers & i haven't heard much about it since then.
