Gun won't fit in case!?!

I own 2 gun cases (these) that were sold as rifle/shotgun cases and my gun won't fit in them. When I try to close the top and lock it, it takes a lot of force. I have 40x scopes. Is it because they are cheap? The foam seems too stiff. Is there anything you have done to make your gun fit better? I thought about cutting away some of the foam, but I think it would look kinda crappy... PD

The stiffness is there and will prevent the guns from sliding together and marring the finish of one or the other.
I have a cheaper 2 gun case and only carry 1 gun it it because the case isn't stiff enough and allows the guns to settle and rub against each other when moved or carried. I would like it if mine was as hard to close as you say yours is, this would prevent the problem I have, now I wrap mine in towels before I put 2 in the case together.

pd buster-
If the cases were stored outside or just came in from a vehicle the foam may be stiffer? But at room temperature I don't have any problems with my gun cases. Sometimes when I try to case a gun with bipod and high power scope it can be a little tight at first. Maybe it just needs some break in? If all else fails Cabela's has a great satisfaction garranty. Hope this helps-MH

I have the same case and have to put knee pressure on them to get them closed. I'd rather they be hard to close and keep the guns from sliding around, than not.

2 guns won't actually fit in the case with scopes and bipods. It just seemed to me that it would ruin the case. Thanks for the input! PD

I agree with that 110%.

I have the same case also. Mine is pretty hard to close too. It's getting easier after about 15 years though. As stated by others you want them to fit the guns tight to prevent damage.
You didn't mention the tripods in you'r first post. I don't think mine would fit with tripods, or that they were designed for them.

Ditto!

I also have one of those cases and with a scoped rifle w/bipod it is pretty much a one gun case. I have never even bothered to try and get 2 scoped rifles in one.

The only case I have that will hold 2 scoped rifles Is an aluminum one(not sure of brand) but it is also about 16" wide. This case will hold 2 scoped rifles and a dewey cleaning rod. Barely.

I gave up on Doskocill cases years ago for that very reason. They claimed to be double scoped rifle cases (maybe double scoped .22's) but if I used them that way either the hinges or latches blew out eventually. Tight is definately better than not so tight, but too tight and something is gonna give. I'm using a 16" aluminum case now and won't put 2 rifles in it very often for the same reason. If you need a 2 rifle case I would go with 1 that is double sided.

Those cases only will fit ONE varment gun with scope attached you might have to trim some of the foam around the gun then replace it with a thiner piece
