I have gone down that same road. I reluctantly painted my rig and the paint began to scratch and rub off. Tried the cloth camo tape on stock (only) since it can trap moisture and rust the barrel. I was finding that I was having to redo it once a year, since after a year of calling it begins to come off.

So I decided to put the sewing machine to work. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Get you an old camo shirt, cut it open to allow it to lay flat. You want to only cover from your scopes adjustment knobs to the end of your barrel. So wrap it around all of your guns contours and mark where you need to put your seem,(youll only need one), then hop on the sewing machine and try to figure out how to get that small thread through all of the loop d loops and get after it. It acts as a sock that you just slide over your gun and you dont have to worry about painting your rig, messing with cloth tape, or having a gun gillie strand in the line of sight.

Hope this helps /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I also did the sock type and am satisfied with it.
But I bought a yard of camo fabric at a fabric store (Realtree Advantage) plus some camo iron on patches and tan colored velcro. Mine runs from the muzzle to the butt plate with only the scope and bolt fully exposed.
Once I had figured out where the sling swivles and the trigger guard would be, I reinforced those spots with the iron on patches.
Next I sewed the seam from the muzzle to the front scope mount.
Then made a couple of straps to go over three spots (one over the scope, one over the small of the stock and the last over the cheek piece area of the stock).
Covers everything but the scope and I have enough material to do another rifle.

Say Tommy, If you only want to cover the barrel and part of the scope, couldn't you just use one of the sleeves from that shirt that you started with?

That is a good idea Chris!! Where were you when I was fidgeting in the living room floor with all this darn fabric? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

No not really, the shirt I used was only a short sleeve and I wasnt about to cut good camo up.

My reasoning for only wanting to cover from scope knobs forward, was to allow full access to the bolt. If a coyote is going to see me he is going to see me, whether my butt stock is showing or not. Im sure that they sell these gun socks over the counter but nothing works like a custom job. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Silver bullets, I tried the camo strips while doing this job, I spent two hours cutting different size pieces. But found that you better sew them on before you sew a seem onto the sock or it isnt happening. So I just stuck with a camo sleeve and that should do just fine. Either way just something to take that glare of that barrel is the main purpose.
