Had fun last night

Went out last night to see what would come in. On the first set, nothing at all. Then moved on to the next location. Set up 1/4 mile south of where I set up last weekend, saw 2 but wouldn't cross the drainage ditch. Was set up on the west side of the chisel plowed corn field. Wind is from the N at about 6 mph. Started my call out with prey distress to see if anything was close by in the pines tree 250 yds south of me. Then changed sounds, did a howl then went between fights and breeding sounds. After about 20 mins I see a coyote about 1/2 mile straight east of me. Watch as it moves closer, but it going into the wind. So I reposition more to the NE and watch. It comes to about 500 yds and then goes back and starts to challenge howl at me. I give it some burger barks, then gave it the female challenge howl. It just standing out there. I then change to pup distress and let it rip. Boom it starts running my way. I turn volume down some and move my rifle to the E direction. It keeps coming and now I'm moving my rifle to SE direction, now again to almost straight S. It coming in at a nice steady trot toward my call. It stops and gives me a broadside shot, boom goes the rifle and that lovely Thop sound we hear. Down it goes (DRT).

Then when it goes down I see another coyote about 30 yds behind it. It must of came out of the pine trees. Hear is were I will tell everyone of my mayor mistake of the night. I got out and set up, couldn't remember if I bolted my rifle. Reached down to tap the magazine in and there is nothing there. Shit I forgot to put the magazine in the rifle. So I always try to have 5 shells in my pocket so when I need to replace the empty magazine. So I set out 3 shells on the ground and my bolt would be a single shot on this stand. So after I shot, I had to reload, not good when you have a second coyote there. Get it loaded and back up on the scope, the second coyote is standing by the first down coyote. Put the cross hairs on the second one and rifle goes boom and again that beautiful sound Thop and its (DRT).

As you can see by this picture, you can see how close they ended up to each other. 147 yds (ONX) The male had good fur, the female didn't have god fur.

Got the loaded into the back of the truck and onto the next spot. Got set up and was facing SE. Wind was ok. Started my calling sequence with distress. Scanning to the east, there's wood about 500 yds. I see something coming my way. Move my rifle straight east and get it in the scope. A skunk is running toward me. I turned my call off. Don't want a skunk to come and visit. It swings to the north on me. Put on a howl and wait and listen. Nothing at all, start doing a coyote fight sound. Looked back at where the skunk went and I see a coyote running with the wind toward me. I have to rotate myself to the NW. Coyote is coming in fast, it getting close to the owner farm equipment, then I wouldn't be able to take a shot. So I start growling at it. It stops and looking right at me, frontal shot, and again that beautiful sound of Thop and coyote is (DRT). 110 yds (ONX). As you can see by the picture, this one had full on mange. Ugly

So lesson learned tonight, Don't forget the your magazine in the truck. And as always, thank you for taking the time to read my post.

Didn't see anything but rabbits thurs & fri nite. Big 20 yd dia of damaged field and set some corn out but nothing else showed.

Congrats, way to persevere.

That's one of the reasons I use a backpack, to carry extra things I may need when away from the truck.
