Hand held scanning device-recommendations?

Looking to see what you guys use to scan with in the dark. Price range is 300-500$ which will limit me to Gen.1/digital night vision for now. Mostly hunting areas that won't need to see more than 100 yards. Just bought a photon sightmark 4.5 RT for my gun. I don't think scanning with the gun is going to be very practical. Anyone had success with a monocular in that price range?

If you use a tripod scan with the photon and gun .. for hand held i use a bushnell equinox z 6x50 .. Its good for 200 to 300 yards at night .. It sells below $300 at opticsplanet.com and can be purchased from several other sites ..
 
Thanks for the responses. Yeah, I caught the reviews about optics planet taking money and then taking days and weeks to ship an item. Not a good practice to make the sale and then take forever to ship, but I know a lot of people have had success there. Not a fan of what Amazon has done to small business but you can't beat the 2 day shipping. Was also looking at the Sightmark Signal RT as an option, but there's not a lot of reviews on it yet. Most of my hunting is in close quarters 30-100 yard shots, hardwoods, cutover, some power line right of ways. I try to hunt elevated when possible to help with scent control.
 
I’ve never been a fan of scanning with the gun. I used one of those $100 gen 1 firefields with my surefire IR Torch and 150 yards I could see pretty well. Issue was I had to hold both units. Coulda taped em together probably. Easy fix for adding range to night vision and there’s a ton of quality torch’s for pretty cheap.

As for OpticsPlanet I order from them most the time and haven’t had an issue. Example, my scope was ordered Monday and I was told it’d be here today, just checked and it got here yesterday. Free shipping and a 14% off coupon. Once I ordered a scope with “limited stock” and I got a call a couple hours later telling me they went to fill my order and ran out, gave me a list of scopes comparable to the one I wanted AND said they’d mark em down to being same price but I elected to wait the 3 weeks on back order.

Though my next purchase may be from our resident optics dealer due to some of the deals I’ve heard em make.
