Handgun Permit??

Well I asked for a 22 pistol for Christmas and the good news is things are looking good, but me and dad were talking and he thinks you need a handgun permit to buy a handgun in Nebraska. Neither one of us knows for sure but I'd like to know so I can tell him and he can get one before Christmas so I'll be able to get my long awaited pistol. Any links would be especially helpful but not needed. Thanks alot guys, you might save Christmas with this one /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

Here is a quote from:
http://www.statemaster.com/graph/gov_gun_law_per-government-gun-laws-permits
Which goes state by state what is required to buy a handgun

"The transfer certificate needed to receive a handgun is valid for up to 3 years and can be used for an unlimited number of purchases. State law does not provide for concealed firearm permits."

Here is all the info for NE as of mid-year '05.
You'll need to scroll down to page 50 for Nebraska...it has all the states.

It looks like the transfer certificate is part of the background check and can be done by any dealer....I could be wrong...I've been wrong before.

The Laws change every year. Your beat bet is to call a gun shop They have to keep up with the latest. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Thanks a lot guys hopefully it all works out, this would be about the best Christmas ever and think all made possible by you guys, doesn't that make you feel all good inside?? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Congradulations. You are fortunate to have a great politicly incorrect dad. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif Concinrate on precise sight picture, and trigger control. It helps if you ger a pistole that you can dry fire. Practice keeping a perfict sight picture against a plain background, and having it not move when you pull the trigger. Start out shooting at close range. Put the front sight on the target, consentrate on the trigger, and sight picture, and let the tin cans roll. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif Shootin a .22 pistole is about as good as fun gets. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

Thanks alot for the tips Frank, I'm pretty set on the new Ruger MKIII512, its the all black target model with a 5.5 inch target barrel. Think this is a good one??

Your dad needs to get a Nebraska Handgun Purchase Permit. There is a form to fill out at the County Sheriff’s office (and of course a payment), they send it to the state for some kind of background check and if everything checks out they send your permit back to the county office and you pick it up there.

In Nebraska having the purchase permit speeds up the paper work process when you are buying a rifle or shotgun too, so they aren’t bad idea to have.

That is the gun that I shoot the most. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif It work great just the way it is. You can make you dad's future shopping easy. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif (1) Crimson Trace Lasergrips (2) Burris 1X XER scope, or Ultra Dot Red Dot sight. (3) Volquartsen Ruger Mark III Drop-in Accurizing Kit (trigger parts) from Brownells,or you can send the gun to Volquartsed, and they will install it for a nominal fee over the cost of the parts./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif The best cheap ammo that I have found is the Federal 550 Round Value Pack. Wall Mart carries it. The calender will slow down between now and Christmas. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Haha ya you bet it will Frank, but like I figured a wrench thrown into my plan now dad doesnt know because he doesnt think handguns are very safe, I gave him good reasons why I should have one and told him how safe me and my friends are and he agrees but I dont know what to do. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif Any advice? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Your Dad has a good point. If you are willing to give up a little fredom, and spend some effort you can probibly sway him. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif Here are some good talking points, and offers to make; Take a Hunter Ed class, and try to get dad to sit in with you, Don,t go shooting with your friends to start with, only an experianced shooter who can show you the ropes, find a shooter who is willing to mentor you. Most old timers love to get a new shooter started right. Or better yet join a gun club. Practice gun handeling at home with an "empty" gun; muzzel control, operating the safety, checking the action, etc. Tell your dad that you are willing to follow any rules, or restrictions, and stick to them. Above all take your shootin seriosly, learn as much as you can. The hardest thing to learn with a handgun is muzzel control, and keeping your finger out of the trigger guard until the gun is pointing at the target. I think you still have a good chance for the best Christmas present ever. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif Good Luck.

An other thing you can do is buy a soft air pistole. Treat it like a real gun and learn the fundamentels. 1 Never let the muzzel point at anything you do not wish to distroy weather the gun is loaded, or empty. 2 Keep your finger out of the trigger guard until you are lined up on the target. Don't load the gun until you are going to shoot. Be sure of your target, and what is beyond. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif It is a lot easyer to learn good habits than to break bad ones. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Ya, I've already taken Hunter Education and I've been hunting with my 22 and 20 gauge and 223 for a while now and he knows im safe and everything and he even told me that, but you make a good point Frank to not use it around friends at first. The airsoft guns haha oooo those are good times, they became the cool thing last year and for a couple months the town turned into a simulation of the ghetto, people always watching for drive bys, ambushes oo man it was fun. I was informed today by my mom that they arent buying me a pistol for Christmas but its never too late to stop asking for it. I'll see what I can do, thanks a lot Frank.
