Harris Bipod Questions

I just finished building an AR and I'm starting to work up some loads for testing. I am looking at buying a new Harris bipod and I have a couple of questions.

First, I am thinking about the 25C-S that extends from 13 1/2" to 27". I am 5'9" and want to use it for shooting coyotes from a sitting position. I have a fairly long torso and wonder if it will be tall enough for me. Shooter's Ridge has a new model that extends from 14 1/2" to 29 1/4". When I called them they said it was because the taller version fit the average shooter better than the 27" one. If the 27" one would work, it would be my preference because it would probably still work when shooting prone, or would it?

Secondly, my AR has a round forend (it is a RRA upper with a 20" bull barrel) and I wonder if an adapter is necessary for mounting the bipod. The forend tube is threaded, but I can see where some type of mount that reinforces things might be necessary. I am sure that plenty of you have crossed these bridges before me.... any suggestions from you experience would be most appreciated.

Have a great day!!!

oldmuleskinner,

I had the 27c and exchanged them for the 25" S model. They seem to fit better for prone shooting, but still a little tall. I prefer shooting sticks I made for sitting and calling, as they are a lot steadier than any bipod and easier to move about to get the shot than the bipods attached to the gun. I made them out of fiberglass fence rods and four or five castration rubbers and some 3/8" fuel line for tips. Total cost under $5.00. Got everything needed at farm supply store. They are just as steady as a set of manufactured shooting sticks and a lot LESS expensive!!

If your gun has aluminum free float tube with sling swivel stud, the bipod will mount to it without any reinforcement needed. Hope this helps

I am not much on proone shooting my neck cricks up and give me a head ache and bipod seem to get in my way some times so I built a set of bifur pod shoot sticks useing varmint-als instructions I like them alot in fact i built three sets one for both vehicles and one for the house that way i would always have access to a set .. www.varmintals.com i think is the web site wich has the varmint dens forums another good place to talk about our kind of hunting . thats also were varmint als post @.....

I have the 25 S, It works well on my round free float tube. I am 6' and it is "just" tall enough when I sit and not too tall for prone. Sticks are nice but I like the prone/sit option.

I have both the 29" Shooters Ridge can always be let down just a little but you can not stretch the Harris. The Harris fits me fine but it seems that the ground always is higher next to the tree or it is muddy or sandy and the legs sink just a little. Go with the shooters ridge 29".
